Asking your boyfriend for money, -Right Or Wrong

Dear Readers ,
My main issue is that when I’m in ą relationship I don’t like asking who ever I’m dating for money because I feel he would take me for granted and won’t respect me but there are some times when am in ą tight corner and i really need help I still won’t ask….My friends say there’s nothing wrong in it and that its my boyfriend’s responsibility but what comes to my mind is that he’s not my Father……Pls I’m confused ….Help!
