Rita Dominic and Lynn Whitefield announced as AFRIFF Goodwill Ambassadors
Nollywood star Rita Dominic and Hollywood actress Lynn Whitfield have been announced as the ambassadors for the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). The announcement was made by Chioma Ude, the Executive Director and Founder of the Africa International Film Festival. “Rita Dominic is a consummate actress and indeed an African screen Icon, having won several awards and nominations throughout her career, most recently she became Africa’s Best Actress by winning the 2012 Africa Movies Academy Award (AMAA) for her role in the Kenyan film Shattered. She also has won the Nollywood Movies Award, the Nigeria Entertainment Award and City People‘s Face of Nollywood Award. With over one hundred films to her credit, she has played a pivotal role in showcasing Nigerian cinema popularly known as Nollywood. “Lynn is a natural choice as AFRIFF Goodwill Ambassador not just for her accomplishments in Hollywood, but also because of her passionate support for the AFRIFF project since its inception,” Chioma explained.

The General overseer of Deeper Life Bible Ministries Pastor William Kumuyi has set aside a N1billion budget which will be used to build an ultra modern campus for his “Anchor University.” The site for the Campus is a huge land which has already been fenced along the Lagos/Ibadan express way. iROKING Fires Michael Ugwu For Alleged Gross Misconduct
iROKING is the sister company to iROKOtv which is both owned by Jason Njoku. Just like iROKOtv is known for Nollywood movies, iROKING was built in line for music. They wanted another great platform for music just like they have with iROKOtv and made Michael Ugwu the CEO of iROKING. Something went wrong between him and Jason earlier this month and he was fired. Nothing was heard from both sides until today, when Jason Njoku's team made a press release. Michael who felt not all what they said was true, decided to say his own part and informed the public he will be starting something else pretty soon. Sadly, Michael is one of Nigeria’s leading young tech executives and Jason Njoku is also one of the best in what he does. Hope they resolve this soon. Find their statements below...

We can confirm that Michael Ugwu is no longer the CEO of iROKING and has left the company. He was dismissed earlier this month with immediate effect for gross misconduct. It came to light that, whilst under contract and salary of iROKING, Michael Ugwu set up and launched his own digital music platform, in direct competition with iROKING. This is an unequivocal breach of the robust non-compete and confidentiality clause he signed when he joined the iROKO team. We will not be divulging any further details on the subject matter for legal reasons.
A number of the iROKING staff have also been dismissed on the grounds of gross misconduct. This action, alongside the dismissal of Michael Ugwu, was taken by the iROKO Management team in order to protect the intellectual property and reputation of our online music platform, as well as our artists’ work.
As part of an organisation-wide restructure, we have decided to streamline the iROKING team based in Lagos, and have now redistributed a number of the core tasks across our global teams in London and New York. These changes have been made in order to make the strategic and day-to-day running of iROKING more effective and productive.
Those who left the company have been given a generous six weeks’ severance pay, which is 50% more than stated in their employee contracts.
iROKING, as one of Nigeria’s leading digital music platforms, continues to showcase some of the country’s most prolific and exciting artists. Since launch, we have recorded over 350 Million YouTube hits for our artists and we have over 1.1 Million users downloading tracks from our online and mobi platforms every month. I would like to state for the record that a decision to wind down iROKING was taken before the iROKO management “apparently’” fired me. I was verbally asked to become COO of Spark Ltd which I summarily refused stating my intention to stay in the music space. It has been clear for some time that iROKO Partners wanted
to exit the music space culminating in the winding down of iROKING so I am still fully trying to understand how I would set up a platform to compete with a platform that was to be “scrapped” according to Mr Jason Njoku.

For the record I would like to see physical evidence of the digital platform I have set up. A copy of the apparent companies registration will suffice. I also strongly suggest to the management of iROKO Partners that rather than sending out press releases and writing blog posts on their personal blogs they should first tidy their house and/or pursue serious legal action.
In the land of iROKO I guess restructuring means getting out of a sector. Nigerian artists please beware of iROKO Partners apparent commitment to developing the digital distribution space. (Please see attached screenshot)
In the Ventures Africa blog post I was fortunate enough to read Jason Njoku’s mention of a 6 week “generous” severance package for iROKO staff however to date all the iROKO staff affected in this saga have not received such. I implore serious investigative journalists to verify his claims. Seek out former staff and ask questions.
I believe that Jason Njoku has possibly spent far too long distributing Nollywood films online so much so that some of the sensationalist story lines influence him.
If iROKO Partners wishes to pursue legal actions I suggest they do such or I will see this is flagrant defamation of character. Last year iROKO Partners Lagos had circa 80 staff, now there are circa 15 remaining. At a time many of us were loyal to the iROKO cause, however serious structural issues have arisen so much so that many have felt it safer to find employment elsewhere. I wish the remaining staff members and management the best of luck in their future endeavors.

Chris Brown’s Halloween Party Has Been Cancelled As He Enters Rehab
TMZ has claimed that 24-year-old singer Chris Brown has canceled attending two Halloween parties due to him checking into rehab. The singer who just got released from detention has decided to get help and stay away from the troubles of the world for the next 3months.
Chris who was earlier supposed to host his own Halloween party at the Conga room in L.A on Thursday, 31 October while he’s scheduled to attend another one with his girlfriend Karrueche Tran "whom reports claim they have broken up" at the Haze club on Friday in Las Vegas. A statement on haze club’s website confirmed the cancellation as it reads “Chris Brown’s scheduled Halloween costume party at L.A LIVE’s Conga room has been cancelled.” Chris was dropped off at the rehab facility located in Malibu by his longtime Attorney Mark Geragos and he’s said to undergo specific anger management training so he can regain proper sight into his past and know what’s ahead for him in the future.

The 25year old singer has added another set, to her extensive tattoo collection, and this happened over the weekend, while in dominican republic.
She was tattooed by famous celeb tattoo artist Bang Bang McCurdy and Cally-jo of famous Bang Bang NYC tattoos on Sunday.
An 11-hour session,!!! , the new ink was incorporated on the same hand that Riri has the Maori tattoo that. She got using a chisel and hammer.
Bang Bang tells,”We drew on her hand from 7pm till midnight. We were drawing and changing things, I’d take a break and Cally-jo would draw, then I’d draw…the inspiration was Henna art, we wanted something really decorative, feminine and sexy. We thought that was the closest in style where we could shift and make it look decorative. She had something pre-existing on her hand, so it was a little bit of a cover-up, but also making it look good, wanted to make sure it flowed. We need to work with what she already had”
He added that it was difficult “because the stuff she already had was a pattern on skin. We were trying to fit the body wit what she already had. Mend the two styles with a new style. Her hand is not something you can put away. We went over and over. It was a struggle to design. She even took a nap when we were drawing. We started over until we found the direction she liked”
In fact Bang Bang admits ” this is one of the most challenging designs I’ve done on rihanna before, saying this one had elements to it that were very unique, covering up pieces of it, combining pieces of it, making up new pieces”
Once the session was over Bang Bang said that rihanna was pleased with the results.
“Ri flipped out Absolutely loved it, loved it! It’s a hard thing when you get a tattoo and not absolutely love it. Its uncomfortable when you have something on your hand, when it’s in such a visible spot, and she’s such a visible person. Your hand is as closely related as your face, if you think about it her hand is right there and the whole world is watching it.”

'How NTA Shut Down My Show For Interviewing A Gay Man' - Funmi Iyanda Reveals

According to Funmi, after her interview with Bisi on national TV, their lives changed forever as her show was cancelled and he couldn't return to UNILAG where he was a student at the time. He had to go into hiding and eventually relocated abroad. When asked recently why as a straight celebrity, she supports Bisi Alimi and LGBT rights, she said:
"My sense of justice, fairness and rationality supersede any latent sense of social propriety. Gay rights, civil rights, religious rights, gender rights, child rights are human rights. Justice, equity and fairness are my idea of morality.
"Nigeria of today seems completely homophobic, xenophobic and religiously polarized as though that is the way we always were.
"I was a little girl who grew up in the same neighbourhood as gay Miss John, Muslim cleric Alhaji Abara, disabled Nureni, Mulika in her headscarves and pious Catholic Igbo Mama Uche.
"I saw differences in ethnicity; religion, gender, class and sexuality but these differences did not carry judgement. We lived together mostly harmoniously; any lack of harmony was on account of individual bad behaviour not genetic differences or lifestyle choices. I miss that Nigeria. I guess in a way l still live in that Nigeria in my head.
"And that was why in 2004 I risked my career to put Bisi on my sofa and conduct Nigeria’s first interview of an openly gay man on national television. Bisi and I did pay a hefty price for that action, he more than myself.
"Was it worth it? I’m afraid l have never had the luxury of absolute self-congratulations or flagellation. What I do know is, at that moment, it felt right. YouTube co-founder Chad Hurley immediately boosted interested in his latest project, MixBit, by uploading a video of Kanye West’s incredible proposal to Kim Kardashian.
1.5 million fans (since last week) flocked to catch a glimpse of the San Francisco spectacle but according to a report, the happy aura surrounding 36-year-old Kanye since Kim, 33, said yes hasn’t stopped him from becoming furious with the leaked video. The event was being filmed for his future family’s E! show, Keeping Up With the Kardashians and TMZ say Hurley violated a non-disclosure agreement by publishing the video. OJB Finally Discharged from Hospital after a successful Kidney Transplant
After a successful heart surgery in India, OJB Jezreel has been "finally"discharged.
The ace producer sent out a statement stating that he is well, has been discharged and will soon return to the country.

Loool! Sex Starved Man Drugs Wife For 3-Day Marathon Sex In Lagos.
A nursing mother, Mrs Glory Ojuala, has narrated how her husband, Alex Ojuala, drugged her for three days in order to have sex with her a few days after she was delivered of a baby at her matrimonial home in Lagos State. According to PMNews, the mother of three children made the shocking revelation at Ejigbo Customary Court in Lagos State on Monday while testifying before the court following a petition she filed before the court for dissolution of their 15-year marriage. The 30-year old housewife claimed that two days after she gave birth to their child, her husband started pestering her for sex in the presence of her mother, who was on a visit.
Glory told the court that she denied her husband sex because she was still recovering from the pangs of childbirth and was breast feeding, but he accused her of having extramarital affairs and cut the family’s daily feeding allowance to N100 to punish her.
Glory alleged that she did not know that her husband had an ulterior motive when he gave her a soft drink while she was eating on the day her husband drugged her.
The nursing mother alleged that after she took the soft drink, she couldn’t explain what happened afterwards until she was revived in a hosptial three days later.
She said that she later knew that her husband drugged her to have sex with her when he confessed that he did so because she was denying him sex and was sleeping with other men.She told the court that after the incident she moved out of his house and since then they have been living separately, while her husband abandoned their children for her to take care of them alone.
The embittered woman had petitioned the court seeking for the dissolution of their 15-year marriage on the grounds that her husband was threatening her life, did not take care of her and their children and beat her, adding that she does not love him anymore.
Glory asked the court to compel Alex to take care of their children by providing for their upkeep and education. In response, Alex denied all the allegations made against him and said he had been taking care of his family until trouble started.
Alex said he used to give his wife N200 daily before leaving for work and wondered how she would claim that he did not take care of her and their children.He also said that he was no longer interested in the relationship and asked the court to dissolve the marriage, though he promised to provide N10,000 for the upkeep and education of the children.
The president of the court, Mr T. A. Eko, queried Alex for abandoning the responsibility of the training their children for his estranged wife to shoulder and asked him to have a change of heart for the interest of the children.
The matter was adjourned till March 2014.

Student Breaks Unilorin Record, Gets First Class In Law
If you call him a jinx breaker, you are not far from the truth. The reason is that many students had tried to graduate from the University of Ilorin with a first class degree in Law for many years, but they failed for one reason or the other. Finally, on Tuesday, however, Abiodun Kazeem achieved the feat, drawing accolades from many people.
Kazeem studied Common and Islamic Law at the institution, which became a full fledged university in 1976. Achieving this feat, according to him, is something he will always cherish. But he never forgets to note that his march through the system was a tough one. For instance, he recalls that he did not get admission into the university on a platter of gold. He sat for the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board’s examination twice, in the course of which some of his friends tried to convince him to forget about applying again. “The first time I sat for JAMB was in 2007,” Kazeem says. “I did not get the cut-off point. But I was bent on studying law. So, in 2008, I obtained the JAMB form and sat for the examination the second time. I was successful this time around.” Between 2007 and 2008, he worked with one of his uncles, Mr. Tahiru Adeosun, who has a law firm in Ilorin. While the experience might have influenced his academic strides on campus, from his first day in the institution, he had his mind set on
obtaining first class degree. Yet, some of his colleagues tried again to discourage him. They reminded him that no one had ever achieved that feat in the institution as far as the faculty was concerned. But he remained resolute.
He says, “From the day I entered the university, I wanted to make a first class. I thought that my experience in my uncle’s law firm could be used to optimise my ability. But some of the challenges I had have to do with the issue that nobody had made it. Some of my colleagues who noted that I was so focused on my studies discouraged me. Many of them said, ‘You can never have it. You do not need to disturb yourself.’’’
Twenty-six-year-old Kazeem, who hails from Iganna in Oyo State, says he is from a polygamous home. His father, Muideen, has 12 children. His mother, Mulika, gave birth to six of them. He states that settling for Law in the higher institution was largely due to the influence of his uncle.
Perhaps, he could have read Mass Communication and not Law. According to him, his nickname in secondary school was Mr. Mass Communication, due to his writing skills and gift of oration.
He recounts his days at Community Grammar School, Iganna. “I decided to read Law because my uncle, a lawyer, inspired me. I wanted to study Mass Communication. I was very eloquent and I was in the Press Club in the secondary school. But when I got to my uncle’s chamber, he influenced and inspired me to read Law. I never dreamt of becoming a lawyer,” he says.
Beaming with excitement and a sense of accomplishment, Kazeem adds that this feat is an honour for his generation and his people in Oyo State.
For now, he is preparing for the Law School, after which he will choose between three directions he has envisioned for himself. He hopes to become a lecturer, to inspire young people, practise Law or participate in politics, either actively or passively.
