An Encounter With A Blackberry Babe.

What's your BB pin?", she asked conceitedly, raising her BlackBerry screen-glazed eyes. Her fake Yankee accent was drowned by rancorous voices and the din of the heavy metal music blaring from the Hi-fi speakers of the high-end nightclub in the heart of Victoria Island, Lagos. Even when she was just sitting across the table as we both shared a drink, I could barely hear her. Just as I could not make any sense out of our conversation in the entire time we spent together that evening. To add to my misery even now as I reflect on my experience that night, it is difficult to tell if my inability to understand my young female guest was due to her contrived foreign accent or the frequent interruptions from her "pinging" and the instant messages that kept coming into her BlackBerry phone.
Her obsessive romance with her phone, which repeatedly came in the way of our acquaintance, can be likened to having a conversation with the deaf. So, I had proceeded to ignore this new question; one of the many she had asked, while she took intermittent pauses, with the usual vacant look, from her dialogue with her imaginary phone character, intent on ruining my evening. I was going to treat her new enquiry like a rhetorical question; but leaning close to me, she asked the question again, insisting on an answer. Her persistent question about my BlackBerry status threw me off balance for a moment.
But when I recovered, my response was quick and brusque, "I don't use a BlackBerry" Her reaction was immediate. The shock in her eyes was unmistakable. Her unspoken expression was; how would you not have a BlackBerry in this age and time? Then, she seemed to switch off completely. Her expression became distant.  From that moment, each time we manage to find to something to talk about, she would look past me, as if addressing a phantom.
I was amused by it all.
I had met the restless 20-something university belle some hours earlier in the company of my young cousin. And because it was a Friday night, we all ended up in one of those nightclubs on Victoria Island where you will have to spend some nervous moments scrutinising the menu.
I was immediately struck by my female guest almost compulsive attraction to her BlackBerry phone. All through our conversation that night, she stayed glued to it. Her fingers tapped furiously at the tiny buttons on the keypad. She was a sight to behold. Her addiction, her obsession, became a spectacle. As she tapped frantically on the tiny keypads, she would pause occasionally, a frown appearing on her brow. At another time, she would laugh out hysterically, rocking back and forth on the chair with a loud yell. People turned to look. She hardly noticed, or did not care.  When the waiter appeared to take our order, she was not listening. She was completely oblivious of the happenings around her.  As soon as she realised I was not a BlackBerry phone user, our conversation seemed to freeze out. I became another statistic, another face in the crowd.
But I had it coming.
Long after the BlackBerry phone made its classy foray into the telephone consciousness of the upwardly mobile, I had been indifferent to its ability to quickly transform one's status symbol; or doesn't it? I have never taken myself seriously. For example, many years after Nokia 3310 became embarrassingly outdated, I had carried mine with pomp.

Recently, I walked into one of the mobile telephone shops, just as I had done in the last few years, and each time, I had come out with my wallet intact. I have never been able to justify the reason why I should spend so much money on any hand-held device. Despite the craze that followed the introduction of the BlackBerry and the iPhones, androids and iPads of this world, I have always considered them as passing fads for those who find them as status symbols.

For example, a majority of young Nigerians who carry these phonesan  around hardly maximise the use of the features that come with them. But I guess it is fashionable to be seen with the most expensive phone in town. What, for example, are the unique features of a BB, aside from instant messaging, that make them a-must-have other than the status symbol that goes with logging it around?
Okay, maybe it is useful for folks who have loads of emails to answer per second. Otherwise, what is the point of a young person barely 17, paying monthly surcharges just for chatting, tweeting and Facebooking? Or does it have to do with the good feeling of owning a BB? Ok, you may say it's cool to tweet, Facebook and ping at the same time. But what makes them desirable apart from these features? Are there no other phones performing the same functions?

My grouse with these new mobile phones is the frequency at which new models of the same phone are released into the mobile telephone market by the manufacturers. As soon as you buy a new phone, at the blink of an eye, another newer model with supposedly superior features is released into the market. In less than a month, your new phone suddenly becomes the older version of the new one. And the cycle continues. What phone fashionistas fail to realise is that although the new model may appear sleekier than the ones they have, in reality, the manufacturers have only added a feature or two to make them the new model of the old one.

One feature of a BlackBerry phone which makes it attractive to users, especially young people, is the instant message feature, popularly known as "pinging". Now that comes with its own hazard. Recently, careless and indiscriminate pinging has become fatal. Inside a Lagos bus, I sat with a guy who ensured that his BlackBerry was conspicuously angled in a position where everybody could see it. He was barely 16. My young cousin told me that in students' parties on campus (even secondary schools), you will be "gated" without possessing the most expensive type of BlackBerry!

Now the BlackBerry craze has claimed its first casualty.
In Ajah, Lagos, a girl chatting passionately while crossing the road was knocked down recently. In Ogun State, it was reported by The PUNCH recently that a youth corps member, one Egbe Ogbu, lost his life while pinging in the middle of the road — I mean the guy simply committed suicide. In the report, a learner driver was said to have knocked down the guy as he crossed the road while pinging. He was chatting on his BB that he did not realise the danger to his life. The statement by the driver was shocking and revealing of the danger this BB crazy posed to users. She said: "Mr. Ogbu was busy pinging on the road; I did not know when he got in front of my car.''

Now, who do we blame? The corps member or the driver?
Have you also noticed how BB users treat their phones as companion? How many times have you been with a BB user and you have felt like punching them in the face? I mean, you are in this conversation with a friend and they are pinging away, ignoring you in the process. What could be more annoying? So, you can imagine how I felt when I became the latest casualty the other day. I was simply "dumped" for not being able to provide my BB pin. Now, I am thinking of getting a BlackBerry, if only to keep up with the Joneses.

3 Female Undergraduates Beaten To Coma Over Stolen Pants

Angry market women yesterday beat three female undergraduates to coma at the popular Asaba Ogbegonogo market, in Delta State for allegedly stealing various pants at the boutique line.
Eyewitness said that the suspects were caught with the pants after they had pretended to be customers and paid for two different ones selected from the hangers.
NE reliably gathered that the suspects’ who are undergraduates of the state owned university were said to be regular visitors to the market.
But the trust the traders have in them as regular customers evaporated when one of them, a 200 level mass communication student (names withheld) sought to be accompanied to where they could buy good pants and the suspects paid for two packets of mixed coloured pants and in the process allegedly removed three other packets alongside the ones they bought.
Luck however ran out on them as the trader suddenly noticed the removal of some packets from where they were displayed.
They were said to have been beaten severely by the angry market women who raced to the scene of the incident. Police authorities at the ‘A’ Division Asaba confirmed the incident.

Lagos Workers To Now Work On Saturdays —Fashola

Beginning from the first weekend in March, some Lagos State Government workers will go to work on Saturdays, says Governor Babatunde Fashola.
This move, according to Fashola, is aimed at rendering services to Lagosians who could not have access to government services during weekdays due to the nature of their jobs.
The governor disclosed this on Tuesday at the event marking his 2100 days in office, saying this is part of the Service Charter the government declared in 2012.
The Saturday work would begin with three pilot ministries before others would be added, Fashola said.
The pilot ministries to begin work this Saturday are Transportation, Physical Planning and Urban Development and Lands Bureau.
“Some of the pilot ministries, departments and agencies, MDAs, have conducted extensive surveys across the state and we have noticed that some citizens are either unable to access government services during the week at all; or they find it difficult to do so because of the nature of their work or where they live.
“Our surveys show that there is a favourable disposition of such people to access such services if it is available on Saturdays.
“Consequently, in response to this demand, we have resolved to commence a Saturday service in some pilot ministries, departments and agencies with effect from the first Saturday in March 2013 excluding the last Saturday of every month which is reserved for sanitation day,” Fashola announced.
The governor said the resumption time for the Saturday work would be 10.00 am while the closing time would be 2.00 pm
“The Ministries and Departments involved are Ministry of Transportation to deal with issues of drivers training, drivers’ license, and traffic enforcement; Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development, to deal with complaints and queries about building permits and related matters; and of course the Lands Bureau to deal with issues relating to lands.
“The Head of Service has been mandated to publish the full details of how this will work and the limited scope of services that the pilot scheme will address at the start,” he added.
Fashola also disclosed that from this Saturday, magistrate’s courts would begin sitting to attend to pending cases, saying that the Chief Judge would inform members of the public through the appropriate communication channel of the judiciary about the details of this service initiative.
“What is instructive is that it will certainly improve access to justice and prevent people who are charged with minor offences from being held over the weekend only because there is no court before which they can be brought until the following Monday.
“This is another first in the country and it simply shows that the depth of our commitment to improve service in the State is fathomless,” he stated.

‘She Loves Me… I’m Forgiven’ – Chris Brown Finally Speaks Out On His Relationship With Rihanna

Chris Brown has spoken out about his infamous attack on girlfriend Rihanna, saying that it is the ‘greatest regret’ of his life.
Although the US singer described the assault as a ‘mistake’ he also admitted that the couple had moved on and the Diamonds singer has ‘forgiven’ him.
Speaking to The Mirror, the music world’s bad boy, who is desperately trying to re-vamp his image, claimed that he has had to work hard for Rihanna’s forgiveness.
‘That night was the deepest regret of my life, the biggest mistake,’ said the R&B star, having clearly come to terms with the wrong he did.
‘But she loves me – what can I say? I’m forgiven… but, yes, I worked hard for it,’ he added, suggesting that the couple had put the incident behind them even if other people hadn’t.
‘Sometimes you row, you fight, with the one you love and things get said, stuff spirals,’ he added.
Chris continues to face a public backlash against his actions, which left Rihanna bruised and battered after he attacked her during an argument back in 2009.
He was sentenced to a five-year probation and six months of community service by a court after admitting to the assault.
Due in part to the fact that the pair have reconciled, they’ve faced a fresh onslaught from domestic abuse campaigners and the general public.
Chris, who spent Monday at Elton John’s Oscar party without his other half, seemed unfazed by host Seth MacFarlane’s joke about him during the ceremony.
As he introduced Quentin Tarantino’s violent revenge western Django Unchained he described it as, ‘the story of a man fighting to get back his woman, who’s been subjected to unthinkable violence – or as Chris Brown and Rihanna call it, a date movie.’
The reference to Brown’s 2009 assault of Rihanna drew gasps from the audience in Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre.
Although Rihanna wasn’t at the Oscar party with her other half, the couple holidayed together in Hawaii last week to celebrate her 25th birthday.

"You Must Get A Degree’ – Davido’s Father Insists.. Builds Entire Department In Babcock For Him !!!

They say the biggest legacy a parent can leave for his-her children is education.
Every parent no matter the circumstances strives hard to live up to that statement and so is Nigerian billionaire businessman Deji Adeleke who seems hell bent on seeing one of his sons David ‘Davido’ Adeleke attending and graduating from University like every other child.
The last two years have been a handful for Davido – he didn’t just make a very successful debut in the Nigerian music scene but accelerated to the A-list spot, something that has taken other A-listers years to achieve. He’s released a debut album with chart topping singles, won international awards and performed in and out of the country, what else could he ask for?
Well, Davido isn’t doing the asking, his father is; more like demanding. NET sources say Mr Adeleke wants his son to enrol in a University and graduate with a degree.
And to make that happen, he has reportedly built an entire department at Babcock University (where he is currently a provost) for Creative Arts which will have Davido and his manager Kamal as the only students for now.
We’re told he has also bought a dedicated car which take the boys to and from school as they work to combine academic commitments with show business.
Davido and Kamal (who had to go back to school because of Davido’s father’s insistence) are using the opportunity to bond, a source tells us.
It is also likely his celebrity cousins Bayo ‘B.Red’ and Sina ‘Sinarambo’ Adeleke will be joining them soon.
‘Davido’s dad believes a lot in his music and HKN. He thinks David can take it to the next level but he also feels education is compulsory foundation for his son’, a source to the family tells us.
We learn he has been helping to put up necessary structures that’ll ensure the boys don’t mess things up. For starters, Mr Adeleke insists on meeting with everyone working with his son.
And the young pop star has so far been co-operative.
Davido’s mother Vera, an educationist herself was until her death in 2003, a lecturer at Babcock University.

Davido Said to Have Bought Single ''GOBE'' From Upcoming Singer

Hours after the release Davido's single, another version quite similar to the pop star’s surfaced online The same song by an upcoming singer-producer named Password apparently bears the same title ‘Gobe‘  and it was released a year ago.
Password (who gained little buzz after featuring on Darey’s ‘Style na style’ remix) had made online release for the same song in July 2011 but it seemed not to have garnered any buzz back then. Sources says Password who produced and wrote the first version of ‘Gobe’ allegedly sold the song to Davido for a sum of money possibly up to N500,000.
‘Dude sold the song to Davido. He produced and wrote it, all of a sudden they are saying Shizzi produced it‘, a studio rat and close friend to Password said in anonymity.
What however makes ‘Gobe’ peculiar is that it had been previously released as an official single.
Both parties have not been responsive to queries over the matter but after numerous comments were made on music blogs and social networks Twitter and Facebook about the stunning similarities between the songs, Davido and Password are now very vocal on Twitter about the matter.
‘They noticed people had found out, it’s like Password didn’t tell Davido that he had released the song before he sold it‘.
Davido was smart enough play along. This afternoon, he tweeted; Big ups 2 @iamshizzi and @iam_password for such a great combination of work for GOBE! More stuff 2 come HKN!
Password was also very co-operative as he also tweeted in support; The song Gobe was officially replaced by @iam_davido hu co-wrote on d new version and I @iam-password is very happy and satisfied.
HKN in-house producer also tweeted; Follow my gud friend @iam_password and thanx to him and d inspiration we all put into gobe! Cc”@iam_Davido.

Closed market: We Are Losing N100 billion daily, Ladipo Traders Cry Out

Traders in the popular Ladipo auto parts market closed down, yesterday, by Lagos State Government on Monday have started counting their losses, saying they are losing at least N100 billion daily.
Traders who spoke to Vanguard yesterday, lamented that they were already feeling the pains of the closure as they could no longer meet their obligations to their families.
Speaking, Secretary of the Aguiyi Ironsi Traders Union, Mr. Christain Igbaunam told Vanguard that his members would be losing over N100billions per day to the closure and lamented that efforts to meet with the Lagos State Task force on Environmental and Special Offenses (Enforcement) Units, to negotiate the opening of the market had proved abortive.
He said: “We have over 1500 registered members. Individual members make not less than N10 million daily. On the average, members will be losing over N100billions on a daily basis to the closure of the market.”
He denied allegations that their security guards arrested were armed robbers, saying “those allegations made against our security guards are false. They were not armed with guns and were not against the state officials. They were only misunderstood. These are security guards put in place by the association to arrest criminal activities in the market. I am pleading for their release.”
A trader who spoke on condition of anonymity, said “whenever I offload my containers, I make not less than 15millions. Just imagine what I will be losing now that the market has been shut.”
Another who gave his name as Jude Tobechukwu, pleaded for the re-opening of the market, saying “we are losing billions of Naira to the closure of this market. Today’s (yesterday) is the second day that we have been shut out. I have lost over N10 millions since the closure. That is a huge sum of money even those in government do not want to lose.”
One Okolie Amadi, claimed his wife was in the hospital for a kidney transplant, lamenting that “I was hoping to use this week to look for money for the transplant. My wife is lying helpless in the hospital awaiting a kidney transplant due to lack of money. I came to the market to see if I can raise some money for her operations only to see that armed mobile police men have barricaded the entrance to the market. I am pleading to the state government to have piety on us.”

NEW CONTINENT DISCOVERED??

The islands Reunion and Mauritius, both well-known tourist destinations, are hiding a micro-continent, which has now been discovered.
The newly discovered continent known as Mauritia which detached about 60 million years ago while Madagascar and India drifted away from present-day Africa, had been hidden under huge masses of lava.
The findings were published on Sunday in the reputed journal Nature Geoscience.
Continental break-ups are often linked to the giant bubbles of hot rock that rise up from the mantle of the earth and soften tectonic plates from below, till these plates break at the hotspots. That’s how eastern Gondwana first broke about 170 million years ago, before further shattering into Madagascar, India, Australia and Antarctica, which then floated to their current locations.
The team of scientists – from Norway, Germany, Britain and South Africa – dated grains of sand from the beaches of Mauritius to conclude that plumes under the island played a key role in giving the Indian Ocean its current shape.
The plumes led to a rupture in the tectonic plates that separated Madagascar from India, creating the micro-continent. But because it was created through the rupture, and not by a clean separation from a larger landmass – unlike India or Australia – Mauritia – lies covered by lava just off the coast of Mauritius and Reunion, the French-controlled Indian Ocean island.
The discovery has added to growing evidence that the world’s ocean floors may be hiding several such micro-continents that if discovered and dated could help reveal the finer details of how and when present-day continents were born.

Donald Trump Calls 'Django Unchained' The 'Most Racist Movie I've Ever Seen'

After his Twitter fusillade, Trump continued his tirade against Quentin Tarantino's slavery epic on Monday morning's "Fox & Friends" program. Lagos State Government Shuts Down Ladipo Market

LAGOS State Government Monday made good its threat to shut down the popular auto spare parts market, Ladipo in Mushin area of the state for allegedly contravening the State Sanitation law, paralyzing business activities of traders among other users of the market.
During the exercise the taskforce claimed 10 suspected armed bandits were arrested from a section of the  market. The taskforce said they included five hoodlums who initially prevented the task force from carrying out the operation.
Before the closure, Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, had visited the market and decried the wanton degradation of the environment including filthiness of the area, warning that if nothing was done, the market would be shut.
However, the traders were said to have taken government’s threat lightly and did nothing to remedy the situation until officials of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit stormed the market to shut it.
Before the closure, it was gathered that trading activities usually took place on the streets without regard to the law against such activities.

Drug For Advanced Breast Cancer Approved By FDA

The Food and Drug Administration on Friday approved a new type of drug that combines the widely used breast cancer medicine Herceptin with a powerful toxin to more effectively kill cancer cells while potentially reducing side effects.
Kadcyla, which was known as T-DM1 during its development by Genentech, extended the median survival of women with advanced breast cancer by nearly half a year in a clinical trial.
The drug, which will be called Kadcyla but was known as T-DM1 during its development, extended the median survival of women with advanced breast cancer by nearly half a year in a clinical trial.
Genentech, which developed the drug, said it would cost about $9,800 a month, or $94,000 for a typical course of treatment. That is about twice the price of Herceptin itself, which is also made by Genentech, but it is similar to the price of some other new cancer drugs.
Kadcyla, which the company said could be available within days, is one of the first successful examples of a new class of drugs that link toxins to proteins known as monoclonal antibodies. The antibodies latch onto tumors and deliver the toxic payload. Because the toxin is not activated until it reaches the tumor, healthy cells are spared and some side effects are avoided.
Such medicines, known as antibody-drug conjugates, are a hot area for cancer drug developers, with around two dozen such drugs in clinical trials. Another antibody-drug conjugate, Adcetris, developed by Seattle Genetics, was approved in 2011 as a treatment for two rare types of lymphoma.
The linker and toxin used in Kadcyla were developed by ImmunoGen, based in Waltham, Mass., which will receive royalties on sales of the drug. This is the first approved product for ImmunoGen, which has been working on antibody-drug conjugates for three decades.
The main clinical trial leading to approval of Kadcyla involved 991 patients with metastatic breast cancer that was worsening despite treatment with Herceptin and a taxane chemotherapy drug, like paclitaxel. Half the women were given infusions of Kadcyla and the other half took two pills now commonly used for such patients: Tykerb, also known as lapatinib, and Xeloda, also known as capecitabine.
The patients getting Kadcyla lived a median of 30.9 months, compared with 25.1 months for those getting the two pills. The median time before the disease worsened was 9.6 months for those getting Kadcyla, compared with 6.4 months for those getting the other drugs.
While having greater efficacy, Kadcyla also had fewer side effects. About 43 percent of patients on Kadcyla had serious side effects compared with 59 percent of those getting the two pills.
Still, the label of Kadcyla has a warning saying the drug can cause liver toxicity, heart toxicity and death. It also can cause serious birth defects or fetal death, so women of childbearing age taking the drug are urged to use contraception.
Herceptin, also known as trastuzumab, binds to a protein on the surface of breast cancer cells called HER2. Since Kadcyla, known generically as ado-trastuzumab emtansine, incorporates Herceptin, it, too, is approved only for the roughly 20 percent of breast cancer cases with an overabundance of HER2.
Kadcyla’s approval is for use after a patient has already failed to respond to Herceptin and a taxane. But Roche, the Swiss company that owns Genentech, is already testing it for use as an initial treatment for metastatic cancer. It is also testing it in combination with Perjeta, another of its drugs for HER2-positive breast cancer, which was approved in June.
Roche executives say they hope that Kadcyla, along with Perjeta, will make Herceptin somewhat obsolete by the time it could face competition from cheaper biosimilars, which are similar to generics. Roche says the United States patent on Herceptin expires in 2019.
Herceptin had global sales of 5.9 billion Swiss francs ($6.3 billion at current exchange rates) in 2012. It was the world’s best-selling drug used only for cancer in 2012.

Man Finds Out His Wife, The Mother To His Three Children Is Really His Sister

One man has reportedly just found out that he and his wife, the mother to his three children, are half-siblings -- but he has yet to tell her the news. In a letter, a husband reveals that he and his wife were both "born to lésbians" -- he to a single woman and she to a couple. Unlike his wife, who'd met her biological father when she was 18, the man never felt the need to find his spérm donor until recently. His findings have left him in turmoil.

It turns out, his mother and his wife's mothers had gone to different spérm banks, but, as the man writes, "it appears so did our father." He describes his anxiety in telling his wife and even that he is considering keeping the discovery a secret. "I can't help but think 'This is my sister' every time I look at her now," he writes. Because the writer is anonymous, skepticism surrounds the letter.

One reader suggests that the story is "a fiction pushing a political agenda."

Soaps That Restore VĂrginity, Gels That Push Up Hips

This one is for the ladies – I heard about a store in Dubai, UAE that sells products that can get you the kind of curves you’ve always dreamt of. You want one like Jennifer Lopez’s or Nicki Minaj’s? You could get Shakira’s for less than Dh60 (about N1,100).
It wouldn’t have been so cool telling you about this if I didn’t know most of you ladies are dying to shop in Dubai if you haven’t-most of the ladies I’ve met lately are regular Dubai shoppers.
The shop, Dragon Mart sells ladies’ products ranging from a Dh25 vĂrginity soap that promises to tighten muscles, to a Dh60 (about N2570) gel that claims to push your ‘hip up’, dozens of dubious products are selling like hotcakes at various outlets of the ladies’ shop.
“Our vĂrginity soap has honey extracts and is very effective,” said a salesperson suggesting it be used at least twice a day to get its benefits in about two weeks.
Firmer b*ttocks, he claimed, could take a bit longer, as one needs to apply the gel for about a month. None of these products conforms to health stipulations.
But retailers swear by them. Ask them if the products have any side effects and the standard response is: “No. It’s all herbal.”
The ‘no side-effect’ claim is repeated for almost every ‘miracle’ product you enquire about, whether it be the ‘super slim bomb’ tea or ‘slim bomb’ capsules, or stuff you can eat or drink to target specific body parts like your belly, b*ttocks or thighs.
“You can lose even 13-14kg a month with this tea,” boasted a petite salesgirl, claiming she had herself used the tea.
There is however a warning you must read before you get on the next plane to Dubai; the Ministry of Health has urged residents to exercise caution while using herbal products as some of them might contain harmful chemicals.
Several weight loss products were taken off the shelves in recent times after it was found they contained adulterated substances.
Dr Anil Awatramani, general practitioner at Unicare Medical Centre said: “One should be aware of the efficacy or side effects of any product that one is using.
“As a doctor, I would not personally recommend products without knowledge or evidence about their efficacy or side effect,” he warned.

Kanye West says NO to starring in Kim Kardashian’s reality TV show.

It has been reported that rapper Kanye West has refused to appear in Keeping Up with the Kardashians for reasons that it does not go with his hip-hop image.
He has appeared on the show alongside his girlfriend but was heavily criticised for it and sources speaking to Radaronline.com said that the rapper’s management warned told him that being on the show made him ‘look cheap’.
“Kanye has made it perfectly clear to Kim that he doesn’t want to appear at all on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
‘He has made several brief appearances on the Kardashian reality shows, but wants nothing to do with future filming.
‘Kanye’s team believes it’s bad for his image and brand to appear on a reality show because it makes him look cheap.
‘And, Kim isn’t pushing the issue at all as she knows Kanye won’t bend on it,” the source said.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians is currently in its seventh season, primarily showing on the E! channel.
The Daily Mail reports:
Kim reportedly begged her former boyfriend, NFL football player Reggie Bush, to feature on her show while they were dating, but has apparently backed off when it comes to Kanye in fear that it could cause problems in their relationship.
‘It’s such a departure for Kim because she constantly nagged Reggie Bush when they were dating for him to come on the show. He just refused, and it was one of the reasons why they broke up,’ the sources added.
‘Kim will probably be able to talk Kanye into doing several cameos, but that will be it.’
The news comes as Kim recently told DuJour magazine that Kanye had taught her ‘a lot about privacy’.
‘I’m ready to be a little less open about some things, like my relationships,’ Kim added. ‘I’m realising everyone doesn’t need to know everything. I’m shifting my priorities.’
The interview prompted speculation that the reality queen might make a departure from her reality show and would be leaving the ‘Kardashian bubble’.
However, Kim quickly insisted this week that she would not be leaving her Keeping Up With The Kardashians show after season nine.
The ex file: Kim’s former boyfriend Reggie Bush appeared several times on Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
Addressing rumours that she would be giving up the series, Kim admitted she didn’t know where life would take her, but said she is ‘staying on through at least season 10′ on her blog on Wednesday.
She wrote: ‘As everyone knows, we are extremely proud of the show and all of us are staying on through at least season 10. The show remains to be my number 1 priority and it’s a big part of my life and I enjoy every moment of it.
‘It has given me such a rare opportunity to share more of my life with all of you and has brought my family closer to each other. I’m looking forward to the new season and beyond.’
She added: ‘The fact is that I have many goals that I still need to reach and accomplish and I (like so many of you) don’t know where my life will be in the next couple of years, but I’m looking forward to continuing this journey.’
It had been suggested that Kim may want to leave the show following the birth of her first child with Kanye, after claiming her baby will not appear on television.
‘I think there’s always an evolution of, you know, what you want to do in life,’ Kim told DuJour Magazine. ‘It’s all about finding things that really excite you and motivate you and spark you all over again.
‘I’m realising that no matter what, if you go into something with all these expectations and plans, once you’re actually living it, it could be completely different.’

Maulag Remains Maulag! What is Unilag? ( Federal Minstry of Education)

The Federal Ministry of Education has refuted reports that President Goodluck Jonathan had made a U-turn on the change of name of the University of Lagos. It said on Friday that it had yet to receive any categorical statement from the Federal Government on such a decision.
Reports   had quoted the new Chairman of the Governing Council, University of Lagos, Prof. Jerry Gana, as saying President Goodluck Jonathan had changed his mind about renaming the institution after the late Chief Moshood Abiola.
But the Director of Press, Federal Ministry of Education, Mr. Olu Lipede, told our correspondent in Abuja on Friday that the President had yet to issue any statement on the matter, noting that the position of the government about the name change remains.
He said, “The reports that the government has made a U-turn on the renaming of UNILAG are untrue and misleading; what Prof. Jerry Gana said was that the President was observing the rule of law by not forcing his decision to change the name of the university on the people, but followed the due process by allowing the court to decide the matter.
“The President has not issued any categorical statement on the matter and the ministry of education has not received any directive either; so, the directive of the President on the school remains the same.”

ESUT Expells Over 107 Students for Certificate Forgery

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, has expelled about a hundred and seven students from the institution.
The students, who were at the various stages of their University education, were sent packing for alleged forgery of their Ordinary National Diploma, OND, certificates.
The Vice chancellor of the University, Professor Cyprian Onyeji, who made this known on Friday during the 32nd matriculation ceremony of the University, cautioned the new students to be of good conduct and discard all forms of examination malpractices.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the senate of the university approved the expulsion of the students during it’s 238th regular meeting, having discovered that the affected students forged the OND certificates with which they gained admission into the university.
Onyeji disclosed that ESUT had in the past one year sanctioned up to one hundred and fifty students for their involvement in various forms of examination malpractices.
He announced that the university was introducing biometric data capturing as a measure to curtail exam malpractices in the university, adding that consequently, every student of the institution would undergo a biometric identification in examination hall during exams.
According to him, this would help in fishing out impersonators, otherwise known as’ mercenaries’, who were usually hired to stand in for other students during exams.
As a strategy of promoting academic excellence, he announced that the university would award scholarships to students who make cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 4.50 at the end of every session.
A total of four thousand two hundred students who were admitted newly into the university participated in the 2013 matriculation ceremony of the University, held at its main campus at Agbani, Enugu State.

21 expelled not 28. Case still under investigation-VC (Redeemer's University)

Vice-Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University, Mowe, Prof. Debo Adeyewa,
The Vice-Chancellor of the Redeemer’s University, Mowe, Ogun State, Prof. Debo Adeyewa, has dismissed the purported recall of 28 expelled students of the university as “untrue and a distortion of facts.”
Reports said that 28 students of the university, which is owned by the Redeemed Christian Church of God, were expelled for testing positive to drug use.
But the VC, in an interview with Saturday PUNCH on Thursday, put the total number of students affected at 21 and not 28.
He said an appeal process was still ongoing and therefore, there was no issue of anyone being recalled.
He said, “There is a lot of misinformation and distortion of facts on this issue. What we have done is an internal process that was mismanaged by some persons. It is not true, we didn’t expel 28 students.
“Actually, there was a number of students who went through an investigation, at the end of which 21 of them were questioned and sanctioned.
“What we did was that we called the parents and briefed them because there were a number of the students who were caught in drug consumption.
“This university has a high standard academically, morally and spiritually; we are training the total man and we do not condone any form of indiscipline.”
He said as a university, RUN believes in due process and would not toy with the lives of its students.
He said, “What we did was to investigate and after a thorough investigation, some actions were taken, not as it was widely reported. However, in our system, we believe in due process. It was reported that they were tested without being aware. That is a lie.
“This is a university, where we believe in due process. These students were told when they were going for the test that they were being tested for drug consumption.
“What they did was just a urine test. After this, we invited the parents and informed them and we deliberated on what could be done.
The VC said some of the students owned up while others did not. He said since the appeal process was still ongoing, it would be too early to put a figure to those expelled.

ABU vice Chancellor Disapproves Of A Catholic Church On Campus

A security operative in Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, Kaduna State, has confirmed to SaharaReporters that Vice Chancellor Abdullahi Mustapha’s refusal to allow a Catholic Chapel at the Kongo Campus is creating tension between the Christian community and the management.
Discussions over the building of a new Church on Kongo campus has been going on for years, and the Christian community in the university is accusing the management of favouritism on the grounds that there are several Mosques on the campus and that it has never denied the Muslim community permission to construct a new one.
The security operative said, “As it is now, there is tension because of the development and we have forwarded our security report to our superiors for prompt action.”
In a letter dated February 18, 2013, addressed to the Catholics and the Christian community, Professor Mustapha said, “there will be no more new Churches on the Kongo Campus”, and asked the Christian community to arrange to utilize the existing chapel.
The university is yet to respond to the issue in the media, but the Christian community is understood to have formally alerted the Kaduna State government and the security agencies of the latest developments

A Different Perspective To The North American University Ritual Situation

The North American universiy news about the Business admin boys who performed a ritual continues. A source (Student) who pleaded anonymity said there were two boys involved. They moved the box from where it was initially in a guys room to the rooftop. Then they went out, maybe to school. A girl living in d penthouse on the rooftop noticed d box and found something fishy about it, because the whitecloth with bloodstains was sticking out. Some other guys in the house saw them spraying the box with airfreshner earlier
The girl went to call the landlady of the house immediately to come and see for herself. On gettin there the woman asked who brought d box dere, and the guys who saw them spraying the box told her it was the guys. They called the boys to trick them home. When they arrived, they were asked what was in the box and what it was for but they didn't talk. The Landlady ordered them to take the box outside. On dropping the box, they all took to their heels. The landlady then called the police who then opened the box and they found the contents dere which were:; , a snake, 3 photos of d boys, 2 personal pictures, and 1 dey took together and the whiteclothe with Blood stains. Later that day they were asked to lead the police to the babalawo house where they did the ritual.
But later a source said he heard when they came back from d herbalist's house that it was all a scam. The babalawo just wanted to have their money.
Well, my question still remains why did they go to the Babalawo's place in the first place.

Houdegbe North American University Students Turn Girl To Snake For Money

Around 3pm yesterday, a guy who schools in Houdegbe North American University Benin Republic(HNAUB) was arrested, due to his action of turning a fellow female student to a snake using supernatural powers. more stories and photos after the cut……
The guys are said to be 100 Level Business Administration Students of the above named University, to cut the explanation short, they’re freshers who wants to make quick money, they want to drive exotic cars, blast un-worked for money as a result of oppressing their fellow students who happened to struggle hard to complete their education. This culprit happened to travel to down to Port-Novo for the rituals according to the arrested guy. Pictures of two girls were found in the box which contained the snake. The Snake in the box is actually one of the girls that was used, while the second girl’s head had already been chopped off.
It was a girl that stays in the same compound with them that noticed their strange movements and she therefore reported them to the police. Some of their girlfriends have actually been declared missing for some days now but no one ever imagined that they could have been used for money rituals until the moment they were arrested. People thought the girls had done their “crayfish waka” as usual, not knowing that the girls have been used for rituals.
I'm so sure that the guys in question did the alleged rituals just cause they wanna be tagged “Big Boys” on the campus. They want to be seen as the “popaholics” driving the latest automobiles, wanna use all sorts of electronic device (Iphone, iPad,BB10, BlackBerry Porsche e.t.c). My advice as usual for girls goes thus “If he doesn’t live on his allowance from home or some creative and legitimate ways of making money aside yahoo yahoo, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE (Sare Kaba Kaba). Else You Gonna be Used One Day.

Kris Jenner to Daughters:: Make Me More Money

Eat your attention-loving heart out, Kim Kardashian. The tabloid world is all about your mother these days.
In Touch Weekly in particular, as that magazine is featuring Kris Jenner on its cover for a FIFTH consecutive week.
This time, instead of claiming Jenner carried on an affair with Todd Waterman or delving into her history as a parent, the publication is focusing on her allegedly shady present.
Kris is “going to work Kendall and Kylie for every penny,” a nameless insider says, adding that Jenner is “forcing” her daughters to be “breakout stars.”
In past interviews, of course, both teenagers have said they wish to follow in the famous footsteps of their half-siblings, but In Touch insists Jenner is behind it all.
She has pulled the out of high school. She has forced them to create a fashion line. She has secured for them a book deal.
“Kris isn’t acting like their mom,” says the mole. “She’s acting like a Hollywood agent.”
And this is different than how she was around Kim, Khloe and Kourtney… how, exactly?

Lady Gaga's surgery a success

Gaga declared she has undergone successful surgery to repair an injured hip that forced the pop singer last week to cancel the remainder of her tour.
The star thanked fans in a blog post on her littlemonsters(dot)com fan website on Thursday, saying the surgical setback was “just a bump in the road.”
The 26-year-old writes:
“As they wheeled me into surgery, I thought about all of your pain and perseverance, your unique family situations, school environments, health issues, homelessness, identity struggles.”
“So I thought to myself, ‘I’m alive; I’m living my dream.’”
“This is just a bump in the road.”
A labral tear of her right hip was what sidelined Gaga, leaving her unable to walk. No timetable has been set for her to return, but she will require “strict downtime.”
The injury, while specifically not something anyone predicted, wasn’t all that surprising to those familiar with Lady Gaga and how dedicated she is to her craft.
She’s been on the road pretty much non-stop for two years, performing concerts on six continents, while doing albums, TV and other work in between.

100 Opposition Parties Put Together Can't defeat PDP- Patience Jonathan

If the words of Dame Patience Jonathan – wife of President Goodluck Jonathan, are to be believed, opposition parties should forget about 2015 because 100 of them put together, can never defeat the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The first lady said this at the presentation of “PDP Women in power” calendar 2013 in Abuja on Thursday.
Speaking further, Dame Patience Jonathan said that even if 100 parties merged against PDP they will never defeat the party, adding that it was only the PDP that has implemented the 35 percent affirmative action plan for women.
She said that she will never contest election in Nigeria and that anytime her husband retired she would go back home with him.
On the First Lady Peace Mission building, Dame Patience appealed to the National Assembly to pass the N4 billion budgeted for the project, saying it was not for her personal use but for Nigeria and would generate employment for the youths.
She recalled that when former first ladies Maryam Babangida and Mariam Abacha built the Women Centre and the National Hospital in Abuja respectively, they did not carry the buildings with them when they left government, adding that she will not go with the peace mission building when her tenure expires.
Stressing that the peace mission project was initiated by late President Yar’Adua, she pleaded that Nigeria should not lose the opportunity to host the AFLPM as other countries lobbied for the mission to be in their but it was given to Nigeria on a platter of gold. She noted that the United Nations and ECOWAS buildings are being maintained by Federal Capital Territory Administration.
She then cautioned women to resist being used to kick against the project, adding that if the project was for men the budget for the project would have long been passed.

A Woman Fired From Her Job For Voting President Obama In 2012 Election

An Ohio woman has filed a lawsuit against her former employee claiming that she was fired from her job because she voted for President Barack Obama in the 2012 election.
According to reports, the lawsuit filed last week by Patricia Kunkle accuses Dayton-based defense contractor Q-Mark Inc. and its president/owner Roberta “Bobbie” Gentile of telling employees that if Obama was re-elected, then anyone who supported him would be the first to be fired.
Kunkle’s lawsuit claims that Gentile engaged Q-Mark employees in conversations in an effort to uncover their political affiliations and repeatedly disparaged those who supported Obama.
The lawsuit said Kunkle’s voting preferences came up in a conversation on November 7th, the day after the election, and she was fired on November 9th.
The suit claims that Gentile said the firing was in the “best interest of the company,” but Kunkle believes that it had to do with her political preference. But Gentile’s attorney Brian Wildermuth said in a statement to the Dayton Daily News that Kunkle was laid off for economic reasons and “nothing more.”
“I am sure you and your readers are familiar with the ongoing uncertainties regarding defense spending, and thus the economic environment confronting defense contractors,” Wildermuth said. “The allegation that Q-Mark discharged Ms. Kunkle because of her vote is simply false.”
According to the lawsuit, Kunkle started working for the small company as a temporary worker in April 2012 and became a full-time employee within a month’s time. The lawsuit said that Kunkle not only performed her duties “efficiently and effectively,” but she never received any disciplinary action or negative performance evaluations.
Patricia Kunkle is seeking a minimum of $25,000 in her suit.

Sony Corp. Bankrupt....hoping to regain with Playstation 4

The Sony Corp has being bankrupt for over 10years.....who would have thought? Sure some of us  remember Skyfall. The pictures/graphics are courtesy of Sony pictures entertainment. They are into a whole lot of things. Well, earlier on Wednesday, Sony said it expects to post a $1.23 billion operating profit for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013. But it also previously disclosed a third quarter loss of $115 million, due to a significant decrease in hardware and software sales. Game hardware sales decreased 15.1% from the previous year’s third quarter. In January, Sony Corporation of America revealed plans to sell its 37-story headquarters in New York City, a move expected to generate some $770 million. They were affected by several enviromental factors and economic factors i guess. The Playstation 4 is their way of trying to regain their Losses. We just hope it is worth it.

SONY Corp. Proudly Presents PLAYSTATION 4

Sony Corp. unveiled its PlayStation 4 video game console Wednesday, showing off a machine with dramatically improved technical abilities, crisp graphics, and a slew of social networking features. The new console is a major bid by the company to regain momentum in the quickly changing, $78 billion global games industry.
Due for the 2013 holiday, the Playstation 4 will be powered by an x86 chipset, advanced graphic processing unit, 8 gigabytes of memory, and come with a built-in hard disk drive. Sony (SNE) described the system as being built on a “supercharged PC architecture,” making it relatively simple for developers to create games for computers running Microsoft (MSFT) Windows as well as the PS4. It will feature a motion-sensing wireless controller, the Dual Shock 4, that looks similar to the current version but features a touch-sensitive track pad. (See image below.)
The final design of the machine was not shown to the public, however. Sony did not announce whether it plans to launch the system first in Japan and later in the United States, as it sometimes has in the past, or simultaneously around the world. It also did not disclose an estimated retail price for the video game system.
Additionally, Playstation Vita owners will be able to use their handheld gaming device as a supplementary screen, including controlling games remotely or displaying tactical information. Sony said it would offer a motion-sensing camera system akin to Microsoft’s popular Kinect device. That will allow the machine to pick up the movements of a player. In one example, developer Media Molecule showed a video of users sculpting 3D objects by waving a motion controller in the air.

Sony showed a number of game demos, some running in real-time on development hardware, including action-adventure title Knack and realistic driving simulator Drive Club. Developers from some of the biggest forms in gaming were a part of the presentation, including Capcom, Square Enix, Bungie, and Blizzard (ATVI). Blizzard announced that its PC-only blockbuster Diablo 3 would be available for the PS4 and PS3.

Oscar Pistorius case: lead investigator is facing attempted murder charges

The prosecution case against the Olympic and Paralympic star Oscar Pistorius has been dealt serious blows after South African police admitted a series of blunders in their murder investigation – and the chief investigator turned out to be on attempted murder charges himself.
Hilton Botha, the detective leading the investigation, had crumbled under defence cross-examination on Wednesday after he wrongly claimed to have found boxes of "testosterone" in Pistorius's bedroom and admitted that police had no evidence contradicting the athlete's version of events.

On Thursday further pressure was piled on South African police as they admitted Botha is himself charged with attempted murder.

Police Brigadier Neville Malila told the Associated Press that the detective is scheduled to appear in court in May. Malila said Botha faced seven counts of attempted murder over what news reports called a drunken incident in which he and two other police officers were accused of firing shots from a state-owned vehicle while trying to stop a minivan.

Pistorius, a double leg amputee known as the Blade Runner, has admitted shooting dead his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, 29, while she was in the bathroom of his home on 14 February, but claims he mistook her for an intruder. He denies a charge of premeditated murder.
Sitting in the dock at Pretoria magistrates court for his bail hearing, Pistorius looked more calm and composed than at any point so far, while the smiles on his family's faces suggested that they felt momentum was shifting his way.
The lead protagonist in another day of drama on Wednesday was chief investigating officer Botha, who initially asserted that he had found two boxes of "steroids" in Pistorius's bedroom, electrifying the courtroom. But he hastily corrected himself to say "two boxes of testosterone, needles and injections".
Later, questioned by advocate Barry Roux for the defence, Botha had to admit he could not be certain of the contents. Roux said it was a "herbal remedy" called testo-compositum co-enzyme used by many athletes, insisting: "It is not a steroid and it is not a banned substance."

The state prosecutor's office later said there was an error in the detective's testimony when he identified the substance as testosterone. Medupe Simasiku, a spokesman for South Africa's national prosecution agency, said it was too early to identify the substance as it is still undergoing laboratory tests.

Roux piled on the pressure on Botha after he told the court that one of his witnesses heard a fight – "two people talking loudly at each other" – between 2am and 3am on 14 February.

Questioned by Roux, he conceded the witness had not identified the voices as belonging to Pistorius and Steenkamp – and lived 600 metres away in a gated community. There was a collective murmur from Pistorius's family. Botha later changed his estimate to 300 metres when questioned by the prosecution.

Botha acknowledged that Pistorius's legal team had also found a spent bullet cartridge in the toilet bowl in the bathroom that his officers had not. He also confronted Botha, saying: "You were in the house walking with unprotected shoes. That should not happen." Botha conceded that it should not.

Botha said police found two iPhones in the bathroom and two BlackBerrys in the bedroom, adding that none had been used to phone for help after the shooting. But Roux claimed the defence team had another phone in its possession that the police had failed to request. "Why did you not come to us and ask for Pistorius's cellphone number?" he asked.

Roux also took him to task for failing to check Pistorius's claim that he phoned the Netcare hospital at 3.20am.

Botha said ammunition for a .38-calibre weapon had been found at the house but Pistorius did not hold a licence for it. "Did you take steps to find out who the owner of the ammunition was?" Roux asked. Botha replied: "No, I didn't." He also acknowledged that his investigators did not take photographs of the ammunition and allowed Pistorius's friends at the scene to take the cartridges away.

Wilting under pressure, Botha conceded that he had initially said there would be "no problem" with Pistorius receiving bail but changed his mind after talking to forensics about "how it went down".

Yet asked repeatedly by Roux if he found anything at the scene inconsistent with the account presented by Pistorius in court on Tuesday, Botha confessed that he had not. Nor did he have any evidence to suggest the couple were not in love. Police "take every piece of evidence and try to extract the most possibly negative connotation and present it to the court", Roux said.

The criticism continued at the end of his testimony, when magistrate Desmond Nair noted that Botha was opposed to Pistorius receiving bail on the grounds that he was a "flight risk". Nair said the accused was an international Paralympic athlete who uses prosthetic legs and whose face is internationally recognised.

"Do you subjectively believe he would take the opportunity, on prostheses as he is, known as he is, to flee South Africa if he was granted bail?" Nair asked.

Botha, who has 24 years' experience as a police officer and 16 as a detective, replied: "Yes."

That was met by an outburst of laughter in court, where the mood has mostly been tense and sombre.

The magistrate pressed: "And if he were to flee, he may opt for a country with no extradition agreement with South Africa?"

"It's possible, that's all I can say," the detective replied.
Pistorius, 26, had said in an affidavit read in court on Tuesday that he and his girlfriend had gone to bed on 13 February and that when he awoke in the early hours of the morning he detected what he thought was an intruder in the bathroom.

He testified that he grabbed his 9mm pistol and fired into the door of a toilet enclosed in the bathroom, only to discover later that Steenkamp was there, mortally wounded.
As on previous days, Pistorius looked vulnerable in the dock, struggling and sometimes failing to hold back tears. As the prosecution ran through its case against him, he sobbed.
The court was again congested with criminologists, journalists and legal officials. A sketch artist, Jaco Van Vuuren, could be seen drawing Pistorius's face.

The prosecution argued that the couple had a shouting match, that Steenkamp fled and locked herself into the toilet and that Pistorius fired four shots through the door, hitting her with three bullets.

"I believe that he knew that Reeva was in the bathroom and he shot four shots through the door," said Botha, adding that the angle at which the rounds were fired suggested they were aimed deliberately at somebody who was on the toilet.

One point of dispute is whether Pistorius was wearing his prosthetic legs when he shot through the bathroom door. In his statement on Tuesday, the athlete said he was on his stumps and feeling vulnerable when he opened fire.

But the prosecution has claimed the killing was premeditated because Pistorius took time to put on his prosthetic legs first. Botha supported this view, saying the trajectory of the bullets through the door showed the gun was fired from a height. "It seems to me it was fired down," he said.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel projected a plan of the bedroom and bathroom on to a white screen in the court and argued Pistorius had to walk past his bed to get to the bathroom and could not have done so without realising Steenkamp was not in the bed. "There's no other way of getting there," Nel said.

Botha said the holster for the 9mm pistol was found under the side of the bed on which Steenkamp slept, also implying it would have been impossible for Pistorius to get the gun without realising that Steenkamp was not in the bed and could have been the person in the bathroom. Pistorius has claimed that the bedroom was pitch dark.

Botha cited another witness who claimed to have heard "two-to-three shots", seen Pistorius's lights on, then 17 minutes later heard another "two-to-three shots." He said: "We have the statement of a person who said after he heard gunshots, he went to his balcony and saw the light was on. Then he heard a female screaming, then more gunshots." Roux again contested the claim.

Botha said Steenkamp was shot in the head over her right ear and in her right elbow and hip, with both joints broken by the impacts. The shots were fired from 1.5 metres, he added, and police found three spent cartridges in the bathroom and one in the hallway connecting the bathroom to the bedroom.

Officers found the victim downstairs covered in towels and wearing white shorts and a black top. The detective said that all Pistorius would say after the shooting was "he thought it was a burglar".

Guards at the gated community where Pistorius lives did call the athlete, Botha said. The detective said that all the athlete said was: "I'm all right," before crying. "Was it part of his premeditated plan, not to switch off the phone and cry?" Roux asked sarcastically.
But the prosecution did land some blows on the athlete's character. Botha claimed that Pistorius was involved in another shooting at a restaurant in Johannesburg in January and, aware of the media storm that would ensure, asked the gun owner to "take the rap" for the incident, which he did.
As the day wore on, Pistorius's brother Carl moved to the front desks and sat beside the defence team. At one point he turned to Pistorius and smiled.
Carl said later: "I feel like the court proceedings went well today. We trust that everyone has more clarity about this tragic incident."
Kenny Oldwage, Pistorius's lawyer, added: "We're very pleased with today."
The hearing was adjourned to Thursday morning when a decision over bail might be made.

Kim Kardashian Drama: ‘You Could Have Flown Me From Ghana!’, Actress Juliet Ibrahim Tells Darey

Popular Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim has added her voice to the chorus of those commenting on US TV reality star Kim Kardashian‘s recent trip to Nigeria…
She says she doesn’t see why top Nigerian R&B singer Darey would ‘pay so much money and fly Kim K down to Nigeria just for a 45 seconds intro’ on his Love Like a Movie concert, which held on Sunday, February 17, 2013.
Speaking (more like venting) on her Instagram page, the pretty actress said that Darey could have flown her in from Ghana and she would have ‘represented.’
‘Ok here’s my 2cents! Been reading comments about Darey’s concert and to be honest I don’t see why he will pay so much money and fly Kim k down to naija just for a 45sec intro on his show, like seriously! Bro, u could hv flown me from Gh and I would have represented! What did Kim k do for the 45 secs ? She stood and told a senseless story, I could have stood and told a sensible story about ghana on a Nigerian stage!‘, she wrote.
She also went on to say that African show promoters should shun foreign entertainers and focus on working with more African talents.
‘Lol no hard feelings but its about time we start appreciating our very own African talents then paying all these foreigners so much for 45seconds performances. Check me out, way hotter than some of them peeps una Dey pay big bucks for nothing better. #wordofadvice #momentoftruth‘
But those close to the organisers say Kim K’s visit actually went how it should. The reality TV star, according to the show’s producers, Soul Muzik, and a TV drop by Kim Kardashian herself, was to be special guest at a dinner with ‘platinum VIP guests’, co-host the LLAM red carpet session and open the show. We’re told she also did media rounds, sitting for at least two exclusive interviews, including this one with Beat FM’s Gbemi.
Despite all the drama, Darey’s ‘Love Like a Movie’ concert is being adjudged as one of Nigeria’s best events ever. And it doesn’t seem Darey and his label are considering responding to all the speculation about how much she was paid, or indeed, how much the big-budget concert gulped in total. Darey tweeted this morning: ! Oh well, Kim has made her money already, let's just free.

Tiwa Savage may cancel wedding plans. She's too shocked by the 5 love children

Devastated by schooling revelations from her man’s past, Tiwa Savage, may call off her wedding plans with her fiancĂ© and manager, Tee Billz, if the feelers reaching us are to be believed.
Sources close to her told us that the kelekele Love exponent is right now devastated, no thanks to some shocking discoveries she just made about her man.
For instance, she didn’t know until recently that Billz used to be an item with 2Face Idibia’s wife, Annie Macaulay. Not only that, she also didn’t know that he has children from about two women. All these and some attributes of her man were only made manifest after their Tuesday, February 5, 2012 marriage proposal for which she allegedly got a ring worth 2000.
A good friend of hers told us that she’s been asking herself two questions since all these things came to the fore: ‘Should I continue or should I not?’
Tiwa, 33, according to the friend, is in a dilemma right now in spite of the buzz her marriage proposal has been generating in the media ‘even though she’s been carrying that cross quietly!’

Ice Prince and Yvonne Nelson are back together

Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson dated Iceprince sometime last year before ending things with him to date Iyanya.
Iceprince later met and started dating designer Yvonne Nwosu. Yvonne Nwosu declared today on her Twitter account that she was single again. A source told me it has something to do with Iceprince's rekindled love affair with Yvonne Nelson after starring in one of her movies recently.
Yvonne Nelson and Iceprince were spotted together at celebrity stylist Nancy's birthday party at her home in Lekki on Saturday February 16th. Karen Igho and Tonto Dikeh were also at the private bash. Yvonne Nelson and Iceprince, who came together and left together, couldn't keep their hands off each other.

Ohhh My Gawd.....Mary J Blige to be sent out of her home!

Really sad Mary J. Blige is really going through it. After defaulting on two loans, I’m hearing that MJB may be facing eviction for non-payment of her rent for her NYC swanky apartment.
The New York Daily News is reporting:
Here’s the 411 on Mary J. Blige’s financial troubles — they’re worse than we thought. The “No More Drama” singer’s reported money problems have gotten so bad, she was slapped with a notice on the door of her tony upper West Side apartment building after it was discovered that she “had a rent-paying problem” last November. The luxe building, the Ashley, boasts a basketball court, state-of-the-art gym and bowling alley.

Redeemers university to recall 28 students to Re-face panel as regards drug test

In early February 2013, 28 students of the Redeemer University were expelled by the university for allegedly failing drug tests.
According to new reports, following the controversy that trailed the expulsion, the University has rescinded its decision. They’ve written letters to the affected students and asked them to report to school and face a panel set up by the school to look into the the case.
The students will get the opportunity to explain why they failed the test, after which the panel will make a decision about each student.. We just hope previous cases are not brought back.

MUST READ::“There Was No Need For Kim Kardashian at Darey’s Concert! None Whatsoever” - Charles Novia

Nigerian movie director and producer Charles Novia in this interesting piece writes about the recently held Darey's "Love Like A Movie" concert and the Unnecessary presence of Kim Kardashian to the success of the show. It must be read!
I first met Darey in 1999 at Jazzville, a unique and bohemian music club of sorts which was the core pulse of the Lagos weekend social scene for many years up till 2001 when it was officially closed. Darey was a quiet young man then who would perform a few songs and play excellent notes on the keyboard. Then, I was somewhat of a total artiste moonlighting with stand-up comedy every Friday night there as the in-house emcee who took over from the late Mohammed Danjuma of blessed memory. For over a year, every Friday night I would guide the good-natured revellers through the program for the long night, with occassional singing with the band on my part. Within that period, I met Darey who actually was honing his skills through the Jazzville experience with the help of Muyiwa Majekudunmi, the founder of Jazzville.

Darey and I maintained some staccato contact for a few years after that and I have admirably watched his growth and ascendency on the Nigerian Music Scene with pride, being a 'Jazzville alumnus' like him.

He's a perfect gentleman to the core, very composed and focused. Sterling qualities he got from his late father, the Maestro Art Alade of the popular 'Bar Beach Show' of the seventies on television. This Darey, a refined chip off the old block, a few hours ago showed the whole of Nigeria why he shouldn't be underestimated in no way. His Valentine Concert, 'Love…like a movie' is just about the best musical concert in modern Nigerian history I have ever seen. And the thousands of guests who attended all agree with me.

The concert held at the Eko Hotel Expo Hall a couple of hours behind schedule. It took off at about 8.30pm and for nearly two hours, every member of the audience was held spellbound by the impressive mix of music, drama, pyrotechnics, visual effects, artistry and choreography of the biggest concert experience in Nigeria.

It was Darey all the way with the guest Nigerian artists all given deliberate moderation of appearances through the songs. The expansive hall went dark when the show was about to start and the huge stage screens were suddenly transformed into huge displays of beautiful moving visuals of techo- clip art and arresting picture projections.

Our eyes were made by the lighting to focus on the huge square multi-cubicles on the centre stage which was also the show's backdrop. As the projected images fluidly came on the screen one after another, Darey shockingly appeared in the middle of one of the cubicles which seemed to open up to let him out. The crowd went wild at the effect and Darey sang 'At all, at all' featuring an absent 9ice. 'Carry dey go' followed and this time Tuface Idibia was transported onto the stage by some fairy-dancers with beautiful costumes. Thereafter, Darey sang some songs from his three albums and also took the crowd through some popular ballads such as 'Lady in Red', 'Endless love' (duet with Waje), 'I'll make love to you' (featuring PSquare and Timi Dakolo), 'End of the road' and 'What a wonderful world' among others. When he performed the Frank Sinatra classic 'My Way', he twice said 'Rest in Peace, Goldie' and seemed to break down in some verses during the song. Perhaps with the poignant gloom of Goldie's death still haunting him, the other original hit ballads of his, 'Not the girl' and 'No stars' had Darey wiping off tears from his eyes while singing both songs. The audience gave him a rapturous applause when he sang 'Not the Girl' and even sang along with him. 'I like the way you are' got a lot of people grooving.

It was not so much the songs he performed (which were all perfect) that got us all wowed but the incredible choreography of the Dance troupe, a caucasian ensemble, who mesmerised everyone with a combination of elaborate costumes, bio-constructivism and dance sequences which were simply breathtaking. Added to the lighting effects and the near-perfect stage management, the show ended with huge white balloons the size of SUV tires floating across the hall, giving the audience a retro-glimpse of childhood excitement at the balloons! There were a couple of down points in the concert though. A little microphone hitch for one of the singers during the rendition of 'I will make love to you' almost marred a perfect sing-along for the members of the audience.

Also, the much awaited Kim Kardashian. She came in at the beginning of the show and spent just forty-five seconds or so on stage! That was all we saw of her. She introduced herself and asked the audience to prepare for a night they wouldn't forget and left. Shikena! She was even glum, as if it was a task to just be there at all! Now, I'm not a fan of the lady and I don't even watch her show but I could not understand why some ladies in the audience were screaming when she came on stage! Na wetin? Naija girls sabi overdo at times sef! Kai! One lady behind me screamed out ' I love you, Kim' as Kim walked off the stage. I turned to see who it was; an artificial looking lass with fake eyelashes. Na so dem dey take start!

If you ask me, there was no need for Kim Kardashian at all in this concert. None whatsoever! Was she paid huge sums and flown here to just introduce Darey? It didn't make sense to many. My two cents on that would be that Darey's management knew they had a great show planned but needed the 'ooomph' factor to pull in more crowds. And Kim Kardashian was that factor, perhaps. Anyway, the show would go down in the history of concerts in Nigeria as the best. I mean it!

What I have described has not even done justice to the concert Darey organised. It's far from it. The pleasant faces of those who attended are enough to agree with me. Everyone kept talking about the concert as we walked back to our cars and tweets and blackberry broadcasts soon started about the concert even before we left the venue! Folks, Darey has raised the bar. This kind of concert is one you can only get at the O2 in London, I can bet you on that! I'm told the show took over 15 months of planning and execution. It was worth every penny and energy spent on it. Darey has shown that he's a king in his own kingdom with territorial ambitions to conquer pretenders to his throne. I am quite proud once again of my 'Jazzville colleague'. He did the stuff national honours are made of with this concert.

Russian scientists find fragments of meteor

You guys remember a post where we were wondering if thhere is actually an alien planet? Well we have news on what was in the meteor. Was it Radioactive spores? Tiny Martians? Kryptonite?
Nope, just rock and a bit of iron, according to Russian scientists who tracked fragments of the meteor to the frozen surface of Lake Chebarkul.
Scientists from Urals Federal University found 53 small meteorites on the surface of the lake and believe a larger fragment is under water, said Viktor Grokhovsky, the scientist who led the effort.
The fragments point to a rocky meteor with about 10% iron mixed in, Grokhovsky told CNN.
The meteor exploded Friday in the air near Chelyabinsk, leaving behind nothing but meteorites, thousands of broken windows and some pretty spectacular video of it streaking across the sky before exploding in a noisy, luminous fireball. About 1,000 people suffered injuries, mostly from flying glass. One woman was flown to Moscow for treatment of a spinal injury, state media reported. About 50 people remained hospitalized over the weekend.
