“Blogs and sites created news out of thin air” – Banky W speaks on Wizkid’s EME deal
EME boss, Banky W, has characteristically remained silent as the ‘Has Wizkid left EME or not’ saga rumbled on. However, in an interview with City People, the recording artiste and brand ambassador, decided to make some very important points.
Excerpts:
When you released that album there was something a lot of people noticed?
Let me tell you that Wizkid wasn’t on the album. First of all, I want to say that what we like to call ‘Bad Belle People’ because they think there may be bad news and when you don’t give them that news they start to create it because I guess bad news sells more than good news. So I want to say categorically that there was no twitter fight. People go on-line and use Photoshop to create my profile and say that I said this and then they go and create Wizkid’s profile and say he said this.
The bottom line is first of all, that never happened and what happened is that we’ve been working on Wizzy’s project to make it work internationally and when you are getting to that level things change. He has his own idea of what he wants to do and we are in 100 per cent in support of that and these are things that we dreamed of back in 2009 when I signed him. I felt like this guy can blow all over the world, this guy can you know really be a star and now that it has happened it is a good thing there is a Disturbing London angle he wants to take and so on and so forth and there is a contract in place and he is still signed to EME.
So he is still signed to EME?
Absolutely he is still signed to EME.
Because the general believe is that he started his own thing, ‘Star Boy entertainment.’
Well, you know that is something else he wants to do. He wants to start his record label and I mean I started my own label and look where I am today. You have a lot of people fabricating stuff and trying to make it feel like there is a battle and you know we don’t believe in that. We are all mature, we are all grown up people and we are all happy for one another.
You know he is starting his label and we are in support of that, he is going internationally and working with Disturbing London, and we are in support of that. There is still the Konvict Music angle which we also orchestrated so I guess we can call it restructuring but we are all on the table negotiating and figuring out the best way to make the project move forward. There is no beef, Wiz is absolutely a part of the family legally, he is still signed even aside from contract somethings are bigger than contract and money. EME and Wiz will continue.
It is just that we are figuring out the terms and the reason he is not on the album and in fact he had worked on some one or two things that were supposed to be on the album but in the interest of kind of respecting the conversation that we were having, you know what let’s figure out where we are going and how we are going to do his next level stuff. So we decided as a group to suspend the music that we worked on together just for now till we figure out all of that. We are almost at the conclusion will that. He is absolutely and will always be a part of the family. I mean we created history, this is somebody whose debut album took the whole country, the continent by storm and you know we all worked on that, so it is a good thing not a bad thing, growth is good so that is really the long and short of it.
How does it work for him to have star boy entertainment and still be a part of EME?
I would give you a fantastic example, Kanye West has “Good Music” and he is still with Rock Nation, Rockafella that is all I am going to say about it. There is no beef, no war. One day I woke up and I saw on twitter that somebody has used Photoshop to make my profile and said some random things and used some terrible English that I have never used in my life it just unfortunate that as far as we have come as an industry there are still some people in the media and I want to give credit to like City People.
You guys never took that route and I respect you people for that because some other blogs and sites started creating things out of thin air to cause a problem. We are working and we are all trying to achieve our dreams and hopefully taking this movement to another level. I have never said anything negative about Wiz, and Wiz has never said anything negative about me publicly and let’s just accept and leave it like that. Wiz will continue to be successful, EME will continue to be successful. Let’s just keep the peace one big happy family.
I am going little into what was reported that at your album launch that Wizzy was ignored. He was not acknowledged at the album launch.
I have to explain it. The album launch was structured in a very specific way. We used the album launch, I might add, to launch the Samsung Galaxy Brand phone by the way if you haven’t got one you might go out to get one which has my signature on it but at the album launch nobody was acknowledged because it was not one of those events where you sit down and say “Oh Don Jazzy is in the building and now we have the CEO of Samsung in the building and now you have eLDee the Don in the building who were there.
We wanted to have something that is not a typical event. Secondly from the stage, I don’t acknowledge anybody and that is not a disrespectful thing it is just the structure of the event. Wiz came in like Don Jazzy, Samsung Executives, eLDee the Don, IK, Waje, like everybody else came in and we had a fantastic event and nobody was complaining from my end but again I go back to the fact that people want to create bad news and it is exciting. Exciting for some people when Biggy and 2Pac are throwing words at each other and when Nas and Jay-Z are fighting and then people just want to create that and it is sad, really sad.
Why didn’t they write Don Jazzy came to the event and I don’t hail him? Why didn’t they write I didn’t hail any of the other EME artiste that came to the event? Why didn’t they write I didn’t hail Segun Demuren, that is my business partner. They didn’t write it because it wasn’t exciting.
A lot of people believe that what led to the rift between you and Wiz is because of the sharing formula. I just want you to clear the air on that issue.
Okay, again, I want to say about “sharing formula” again, I got back to the something I have been saying which is when you don’t give them bad news that create it. EME has the fairest recording deal in the country by far. I can go pound for pound and show you the terms that EME artistes including myself even though I own the company, have versus any other recording contract name the recording company. You don’t do that but I can beat my chest to say EME has the best recording contract in the industry, it is not just true for people to say or hint that any of my artistes are received 25 per cent. It is impossible and even you as an artiste can never sign that kind of deal so it is 100 per cent false. Part of the reason the EME deals are structured the way they are is because I am an artiste myself and when I was coming up, I was offered a lot of deals even in Nigeria that were not just but now that I’m to start up myself, I wont sign a deal with an artiste I wont be able to sign myself which I have also signed the same deal. So to cut the long story short, the report out there is 100 per cent untrue.
In fact, if you actually look at the clause that EME takes on behalf of the artistes from the day we signed until when they released their album or whenever money starts being generated, the deal is actually more in favour of the artiste than of the company but we do that because I myself just wouldn’t feel right about a record deal that won’t benefit the artiste. It is 100 per cent false again. It is just sad that some people try to create news. They don’t have the fact so they create them. However, you have to go back to the things I actually said not the things people said I said or what people said Wizzy said you know, it is just what it is.
People can say what they want, but what I tell my artistes is that Jesus Christ was perfect and he was still crucified. How much more us with all the crazy, bad messed-up things we have done in our lives and you think you are going to walk through this paths and be praised? You have to deal with the territory. You want to go on stage and people are going to cheer there are come that want to tear you down regardless.
And all you can do really is try to be a good person and try to do right by everybody God brings your way and if you do that let God take care of the rest. We are fine, we are cool, very happy with Wiz and for Wiz. That is all I have to say.

Lagosians to enjoy 1month free BRT Bus ride.
Thousands of residents in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, will enjoy free BRT rides throughout the month of April, RLG Communications Nigeria Limited said on Tuesday.
RLG, a subsidiary of AGAMS Group of Companies, is a pan African company engaged in the production of communications equipment such as mobile handsets, electronic notebooks, tablets, laptops, LCD TV monitors, and has been trying to break into the Nigerian market since it moved in from Ghana.
The BRT buses are easily identifiable and will ply Ikorodu – CMS, Okokomaiko – Mile 2 and Ajah – CMS routes, said Taiwo Latilo, RLG Nigeria Chief Operating Officer.
“We therefore enjoin Lagosians from all walks of life to feel free to enjoy this service wherever they see the buses,” Latilo said.
The decision to provide free buses for Lagos residents, Latilo explained, is based on the belief that their business is more likely to do well in a flourishing society where citizens are happy.
“Lagosians should therefore see the free bus service as a gift and a promise from us to always put them first,” Latilo said.
He however called on the residents to be orderly in boarding the buses and allow as many people as possible to benefit from the opportunity.
“They should also avail themselves of the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the road traffic signs as will be explained by our representatives on the buses,” Latilo said.
Mr. Adeoye. Irelewuyi of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, said everything is set for the free bus ride to be successful.
“We want to thank RLG for making life better for an average Lagosian and we are happy to work with them,” he said on the behalf of the FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Nseobong Akpabio.
RLG is completing an IT factory in Osun State, southwest Nigeri, a and it will be commissioned in June, Latilo said.
RLG has offices in Ghana, China, Nigeria and The Gambia with far advanced plans to expand into the West African sub-region, and subsequently into the rest of the African market.

Expelled 400 level student of Redeemer's University Sues the school and asks for 10million Naira Only
A 400 level student of Political Science of Redeemers University of all Nations, John Gift Momoh expelled by the school over allegations of taking hard drugs has dragged the institution before an Ogun State High Court in Ota, southwest Nigeria.
In an affidavit sworn to by Momoh and filed before the court by a Lagos lawyer, Barrister Adejumo Omobolaji, the deponent alleged that he was summarily expelled from the university without justification.
Momoh averred further that in a letter of expulsion dated 29 January, 2013 addressed to him and given to his father, the reason for his expulsion was addiction to morphine and cannabis but he averred that he has never taken psychotropic substance in his life and as such he could not be a drug addict.
The applicant stated further that the school conducted urine test on him and other students sometime in November 2012. He said.
The result of the tests were not shown to them and the school’s health centre is not an accredited forensic laboratory, in addition the health centre is not manned by qualified narcotics investigators.
Consequently it was the security men and some staff of the health centre that conducted the test.
In view of this development, the applicant contended that the quality assurance of the processes, tools and techniques used in reaching the conclusion cannot be reliable.
It was further contended that the specimens were not properly collected neither and not properly labelled.
The disciplinary panel that heard the case were alleged to have sat in secrecy, the membership and details of deliberations were not made known while the students including the applicant were not asked to make any representation to the disciplinary panel, neither were they allowed to confront the boy that was said to give evidence which implicated the applicant.
Therefore, the applicant averred that the trial negates the rules of fair hearing enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In view of this, Momoh, while asking for the sum of N10 million as compensation and aggravated damages against the institution, is also urging the court to declare the expulsion letter sent to him as inoperative, void and of no effect.
Joined as co-respondents in this fundamental right enforcement suit are: the vice chancellor of the school, the Registrar and the Dean Students Affairs.

Foluke Daramola and Kayode Salako's Marriage Attacked
The home of recently married actress, Foluke Daramola and activist, Kayode Salako is under fierce attack. A
lady journalist and founder of Lady of Africa Empowerment and Advocacy Foundation, Bukola Fasuyi, who claimed she introduced Foluke to the husband, Kayode, has come out to reveal the marriage was built on deceit and lies. But in a swift reaction, Kayode Salako in an interview with E24-7 MAGAZINE’s BIODUN KUPOLUYI said, ‘‘Bukola is a devil’s agent and please don’t mind her.
Yes, she introduced Foluke to me but she should step aside now that we are married. She claimed Foluke is using juju on me, but you know what? If that is true, I, Kayode Salako will know. I’m a real man. But if truly she’s using Juju, I need more of her juju, you know why, she has added value, brought me a lot of blessings.
He recalled how she met Bukola who introduced her to Foluke. “Yes, when I came back from abroad, I met Bukola, then I was lonely, my life was boring and we met. I liked her because she was so passionate about my Fasholamania’s project, she showed a lot of enthusiasm and we got so close, it was at a time my wife was very boring, so I asked her out, but she declined. She told me that she liked me but she would not date me for two reasons: one that her intentions will be misconstrued, two, it will be a burden on her that she will love me to the extent that she would love to marry me but that she had a friend, an actress, that she’s different from the pack. She gave her name as Foluke Daramola. Really, I never believed her that she could introduce Foluke to me. She’s one of the very few actresses I admired.
Eventually, we met at Mama’s Place. Shortly after she called Foluke to join us and she did. We had fun, wined and dined together. That was all that night. The rest as they say is history. I don’t know why she’s into this campaign of calumny now. Why call Foluke names? What has she done to her? If Foluke is into juju, she should be a millionaire like some of her colleagues whose lifestyles are well known to us. I met Foluke a poor girl with her sanity and pride intact. I don’t know what she wants from all these. Foluke’s life is an open book and I like it. I have taken my decision and the action to live the rest of my life with Foluke and I’m ready to face the consequences of my action.
Foluke not bemused responded. “ I have chosen not to talk but I respect you and your medium and I want to assure you that at the appropriate time, I will grant you an interview. Yes, Bukola came to me, she told me about her project and that she needed money. She believed I have so much that I should be given her now. But there is one thing about me; my life is an open book. I will not respond more than that. Let her go ahead with her tales. I know I have done no wrong. I appreciate the fact that she introduced me to Kayode but that does not mean she has to continue to call the shot. It’s just important she steps aside now that we are married. That should not hurt.”
Apparently full of biles, Bukola disclosed that Foluke has really offended her. She alleged that she went too far in the romance that led to the marriage. “Foluke is an ungrateful element to me. I actually introduced her to Kayode, who, for a very longtime was my toaster but I told him I could not date him because I was not really interested and there was really no feeling for him. I told him I was not really interested because I was in a relationship. About the same time, Foluke had asked me to introduce her to someone who could help, so I introduced Kayode to her. I know he spends a lot on women, at least, he was dating a lady Princess Bimbo Olagunju, and he was spending so much to keep the girl. The same Princess knew how much Kayode liked me but I was not interested. So precisely February 13, 2012, I introduced Foluke to Kayode at Mama’s Place in Omole, Ikeja.
I remember that I met Kayode during the hey days of Fasholamania, his campaign project for Governor Babatunde Fashola. I believed in the project and I knew he was committed to it not because he was getting any money. Anyway, Kayode and Foluke met, they were supposed to date each other but I never advised her to go and destroy Kayode’s home built over 15 years. I know Kayode dated Princess Abimbola currently in Dublin, but she never ventured to destroy his home.
They dated for about five years, yes, the wife knew, the heat was so much. They had issues about that but it never got to marrying him and sending his wife away. Princess knew Kayode wanted me, she knew I could displace her but I remained his friend. But because he was always telling us about his home, the areas his wife failed, Foluke worked on it and the result is the marriage which I advised her not to go into. I have conscience, fine as a friend, I wanted the best for my friend (Foluke), but I know she threatened the home of Kayode, she was calling him at home at odd times, telling him how much she loved him. The next day after they met, he sent N100, 000, that week, he sent more money, about N500,000. The money came at a time Foluke had accommodation problem in Marwa’s Garden, so he secured an apartment for her.
“At a point, I called Foluke that why had Kayode’s wife barely left her home that you started to sleep in his Omole house? I tried to advise her that she should not marry the guy, that all she should do was get his assistance; I told her she should put herself in the wife’s shoes. Since she realised I was advising her, she withdrew from me, she started to avoid me. Yes, he was having issues with his wife but that was not enough to move in. On few occasions, he insisted he was still in love with his wife. I strongly advised her against such moves but she went ahead with the marriage plans. I remember that even while dating Foluke, he had issues with her, he complained about her lifestyles, that she was a fraudster bla, bla, but as a true friend I have to step in. Kayode had wanted to go away.
‘‘… Yes, I know all she did that the marriage eventually came up, I was actually with her to those places, yes, we went together and I’m waiting for her response and if she responds or denies my claim, then I will go all out to fight her. I’m ready to release all the pictures of the places we went together. I’m fighting her because she does not have conscience at all, I’m fighting her because she’s a desperado, I’m fighting her because she’s an ungrateful element. I never collected any money for introducing her to Kayode, ask her if I did but I told her ‘don’t marry this guy, think about his home.’
‘‘Now I’m worried, my conscience is troubling me, I’m worried about the fact that I was indirectly or directly involved in the circumstance that led to the break of Kayode’s marriage. I don’t think Foluke should have gone this far, there are many factors involved, it was not ordinary and I want to tell the world that she does not deserve that man, I want to tell the world that I’m sorry that I did this to him and his family. I never advised Foluke to marry him; I just wanted him to help her out of her stormy life. I owe Kayode’s wife an apology and I know that I will go to her and say sorry soon. But before then, I owe it a duty to tell the world Foluke does not deserve Kayode and as the friend that introduced her to him, I’m sorry.’’
Asked why she’s spilling the bean, now. She said “I just want the world to know the role I played that I merely introduced her to Kayode to assist her, not to marry him.
“Yes, the wife made some mistakes too; I’m putting all these in a book I’m writing soon. It’s not enough for you to decline the advice or suggestions of your husband on how he wants you as his wife to dress. Why should the wife turn the hubby’s invitation to go out together down? Her claim that she’s a pastor and not cut out to live a life in the social circuit leaves room for the other women to step in. For Kayode, he got carried away, he loves the fact that Foluke brings him to spotlight, that makes him a newsmaker of sorts.
But don’t you think you are guilty too? “Yes, I know I’m guilty, that’s why I’m saying I’m sorry.”

First Lady Patience Jonathan Fires Her Spokesman, Appoints US-Based Satirist As Media Aide
As fresh crisis surrounding the health of the First Lady Mrs. Patience Jonathan brews, the presidency has fired her spokesman, Mr. Ayo Osinlu. The news is contained in a press release issued by the president’s Special Assistant on the Media, Dr. Reuben Abati.
Sahara-reporters sources say that the decision to fire Mr. Osinlu was taken by the First Lady from her hospital bed in Europe. Mrs. Patience Jonathan was mad at the inability of Mr. Osinlu to provide a foolproof decoy of a story to distract the media from her current medical surgeon abroad. Mr. Osinlu was roundly criticized for the way he handled the news about the whereabouts of the First Lady last year. During the period, Mr. Osinlu told journalists that the First Lady went to Germany on vacation but Mrs. Jonathan later confirmed the story published by Sahara reporters that she was hospitalized in Germany for weeks.
Our sources in Abuja said that the presidency felt that Mr. Osinlu had lost credibility with the media establishment and that the First Lady needed a heavy hitter the way the president recruited Dr. Doyin Okupe to strengthen his media team that was once in disarray. All efforts by Saharareporters to reach Mr. Osinlu by phone and text failed.
In the press release, the presidency named Rudolf Okonkwo as the new spokesman of the wife of the President. “Mr. Okonkwo,” the release says, “has a good understanding of social media and the internet world and will use those skills to counter the barrage of lies being peddled by some disgruntled Nigerians on the web about the person of our First Lady.”
Until his new appointment Mr. Okonkwo was a columnist for Saharareporters.com and the host of Dr. Damages Show. His satirical show routinely makes fun of the First Lady as well as mine President Jonathan’s utterances to create an unflattering portrayal of the president.
Since the announcement all efforts to reach Mr. Okonkwo by phone and text has failed. Saharareporters cannot ascertain his whereabouts at press time.
A friend of Mr. Okonkwo told Saharareporters.com that he was not surprised at Mr. Okonkwo’s acceptance of this position in a government he had roundly condemned. “The man is as poor as a church rat and I knew it was a matter of time before he jumped ship,” he said. “He is following the lead of the likes of Reuben Abati and Femi Fani-Kayode. They are all shameless hypocrites.” The move to appoint Mr. Okonkwo as Mrs. Jonathan’s spokesman is seen by some Aso Rock observers as “a coup” of some sort as one of voices critical of Jonathan’s administration will effectively be silenced. Speaking to our correspondent, an Abuja based editor who pleaded anonymity said that he doubted if this appointment would work. “Rudolf Okonkwo was at one time a promising journalist,” he said. “But right now, for all intents and purposes, he is just a clown. You don’t use a clown to defend another clown.”
The Abuja editor went on to say, “I hope this is just an April Fools’ joke.”
