Waje Speaks on Why She is still single.

You have always said you are single, why is that?

I don`t know why, but I just feel God has a way of doing things. I have so much on my hands now, let that matter rest now, let me not go and marry now before my husband will say he wants pounded yam, cooked by his wife, not by a maid. Then I will leave everything I am doing and I will be pounding yam. But when somebody who understand my kind of person and my job comes along, then it will be easier for me. After all the troubles of the day, the traffic, somebody getting you angry, there should be that one person who can calm you. Everybody would love to have somebody as a companion, so do I.

"I Don't Think I Have The Qualities For Marriage Yet" - Iceprince

Panshak Zamani, popularly known as Ice Prince who has a baby mama revealed in an interview with Vanguard Newspaper gave the reasons why he is not ready for marriage.

“I don’t think I am planning to get married now because, I am still young, I am in my youth, and moreover I am just 27years old, maybe later in my late thirties, I can start planning to get married or not”. “it is because I still have a long way to go before thinking of settling down, I can’t say because of what I have, that I am okay to get married, No!, I don’t think I am mentally ready for marriage. I think before one could get married, one needs to attain certain level of understanding and awareness. I don’t think I have those qualities just yet”

Hi guys, i know i hardly post. Really sorry about late posts and all. Been really busy with work.

Yesterday i had an opportunity to talk to Praiz. And in case you don't know, he is CUTE! Lol... and his eyes [Really nice]. Okay enough about his "fineness".

Praiz whose real name is Praise Adejo is a tall, nice, and kind hearted man. HE spoke to Dessey's Blog about his upcoming album, his love life, his defination of style, his best meal, his recent donation and some other things.

Excerpts Below.

How have you been?

Been great, working hard to create the best music, be happy and make my fa's happy.

So how do you feel about the recent 10million naira donation;

yeah well, i feel great God has taken me to a level where i can bless someone. It not about the glory, its more about being able to touch the life of someone positively. I thinks that's the ultimate.

What was your motivation in donating to the young girl;

Well, i had an interview on Star FM and the OAP asked that i composed a song for the girl after talking about the predicament. I thought to myself; a song alone won't solve the problem. And since i was promoting my new single with Seyi, i decided to use the proceeds from the callertunez to pay for the girl's surgery. And i'm glad it helped.

So you're favorite food is rice and dodo, but do you eat the normal african meal?;

Yes i definitely eat the african meal but i'm not the Eba Person. I'm more of the Pounded yam person..

What do you like to eat your pounded yam with?

Egusi, Oha soup, vegetable, well it depends on my mood.

How do you handle the everyday stress of going from one place to the other;

Well, i'm used to it. it's in the blood already.

Few days back you had a show with Tiwa Savage and others how was it?;

Yeh, that's the polo event, it was a great show. It was a Premium event, had fun performing, i performed one of my old songs and some others, played the piano. It was more of an acoustic.

You seem like a quiet person... Are you?

lol, well i'm a calm guy oh. But everyone has his or her moments when you get noisy.

What's your definition of Style;

errrr, Style is more or less the way you want to be perceived. What you want to be known as.

What is one thing a fan has done that really took you by surprise and actually made you happy?

One sent me airtime on twitter and that i must say was really sweet and really deep.

What can you tell us about your love life?

Well, i don't have a love life at the moment. But nobody knows tomorrow, i'm optimistic, anything can happen. Who doesn't like good things? But basically i'm just focused on the music and when the time comes, it will happen.

What do you think about the kind of music produced in Nigeria;

I give kudos to the Nigerian music industry, It's number 1 in Africa and recognized in the world. The kind of music produced here is quite interesting. I believe we are doing a great job.

How do you feel about the kind of fame your song "Rich and Famous" brought you?

Basically i'm happy because  it's a song a lot of people can relate to and it's more like a prayer. It inspires you to be better than who you are, work hard, be persistent.

So you studied computer science, what are you doing that is related to that? 

Well, producing music is computer related and i think that's fine for me.

Would you still like to do anything academic related?

With that, i think time will tell..

So what are we especting from you?

My debut album will be out in the 1st quarter of this year.

By the time I'm 95, I'm going to be a bigger hero than he ever was. "Nelson Mandela did a lot of good work, don't get me wrong. But I think I'm on track to do something even bigger. Why I don't feature my brothers in my films- Kunle Afolayan

Kunle Afolayan is a well known name in the movie industry. In this interview he talked about his success, fears and prospects, his post which claims he might not live long among other things.

• Excerpts: 

Having grown up under the wings of a successful entertainer back in the days, what memories of your childhood have you?

I have so many of them and that has helped me in moulding myself into what I have become today. Despite the fact that my father was wealthy and well known, I lived as a child whose parents were striving to survive. The money my father had then was used in feeding multitude, so there was no such attention for us. Also, the kind of training we had was different. I practically grew up on the street, learning street trades and all, so although I was seen as been born with a silver spoon, in the actual sense, it was a wooden spoon. And today when I look at what we went through then and how we managed to survive, it helps me in telling my stories better, because I was able to cut across people in different background, age grades and class.

Were you ever a part of your father’s productions?

No, the closest I got was going to locations sometimes to see how things were done. And when they realise that we were disturbing, they would send us back home. But when I was around age 14, my father started sending me on tour with the other members of the group, where we travel to other states and through that I was able to learn the trade and business of film making.

Why did you take a long break off the screen after your role, Aresejabata in Saworo ide?

I was working at a bank when I took up the role of Aresejabata then and so I had to take time off work to play that role, thereafter I went back to my job. Two years after, Agogo eewo was shot and I also managed to features in few other films. But it got to a time that I couldn’t combine both careers any longer, so I had to make a decision on what I want to do. So I resigned from my job in 2004 and set up my company.

When exactly did you develop the passion for film making?

It has always been there, but I started nursing the ambition of being a film maker in early 2000, coupled with the fact that I saw film making started in this country and what was obtainable in the early 2000 was totally different from what it used to be, so I felt that I could contribute my own quota to the industry.

Your movies Irapada, Figurine and Phone Swap are huge successes, what is the inspiration behind them?

I set out to achieve and I’m glad that in a short time that I started making films, it’s been worthwhile. Once I dream it, I actualise it, and that is because I was determined from the onset. I didn’t come into the industry to be famous or make money, but because I had a dream to revolutionise the industry in my own little way and contribute my own quota from my experience while growing up into what I think the industry should be. And those are all the elements I’ve put into my films and I thank God that they have really worked.

In times of finances, manpower, intelligence and all, how much do you put into your productions?

I put everything into it, I’m always at the realm of affairs and I’m the executive producer of all my films. I also raise the funds for them, I direct them and I see to all the departments. It has not been easy though, but it always turn out to be how it was dreamt, because of the hard work that is being put into it. More so, the kind of team I work with right from the beginning have been dedicated and they always share my passion and dream. And that is why we have been able to get it up to this level.

Judging from how much you invest in your productions, how do you monetise your creativity?

The profit comes from mileage sometimes and not money, because very few people make the kind of films that I make, in terms of budget and such films really can’t recoup their money from just this market. You have to have other sources of recouping your investments, which is why I always consider the local and international market and so far, I have no regret whatsoever, because I have always managed to break even.

And where I think I have really gained a lot is that every project I have done always pave way for the next one, it’s like more or less building a platform. One good film would bring some sort of credit and pedigree and that would enable you to do the next one and when you do the next one and it’s still good, that would also pave way for another one, and that has helped a lot.

What exactly does your company, Golden Effect, do?

We are a production company, we are into equipment rental and no matter the level of production, we would coordinate it. We also act as casting agency for productions, both locally and internationally. We line produce for foreign film making industries as well.

You appear to be a very hardworking person, how do you manage the career and being a family man?

The same way Dangote has managed to build his empire and still manage his family, the same way those who started before me Ogunde, Ade Love and others have managed to separate their family from their businesses is the same way I’m managing to do same. There is time for everything and family values are very important. But you should be able to pay bills and you have to work to do that. So my family shares the same thoughts and it has been great.

You recently posted on Facebook that you may not be long, what prompted that?

I didn’t imply that, it was the media that turned it around. I was just talking out loud. I just woke up and I felt overwhelmed, like I was doing too much and I felt it wasn’t healthy. And at the end of the statement, I said ‘what do you think?’ It was more or as if I was seeking advice. I didn’t predict anything like people said.

When it’s time for me to die, I will die, nobody can predict anybody’s death. That morning I just woke up and I felt I had pushed the body too much. I just came back from a shoot and the next thing, I was off to another one. My social life is dead and all I do often now is work and I don’t think that is healthy. So it was just a thought, I didn’t predict my own death.

What challenges do you face as an entrepreneur?

The major challenge of an entrepreneur is funding. I have people I lend money from because I have a deadline on this job and right now the company is broke and that is how it has always been for sole proprietors, especially when you are the chairman of the company. So funding is the only and major thing that I am facing. Decision making is not a problem because I know what I want and I cut my coat according to my cloth.

How do you think the Yoruba sector of Nollywood can be improved?

In terms of the quality of Yoruba movies, they have better stories and their films are better understood compared to the English speaking ones. The only thing I think they lack which they’ve improved upon is the production value. Looking at most of the English speaking movies these days, they even lack content, there is no story and all there is to it is glamour. You can tell five minutes into the film what would happen at the end of the film.

It’s a general problem though, which I think cannot be collectively solved because it is in other parts of the world. As big as Hollywood is, there are people who are producing DVD and high quality films, while others produce very low quality films. So it’s just a free industry where freedom of expression is allowed and you can pick your phone and make a film.

What is your next project, October 1 all about?

Though the date depicts the Independence Day, it is not purely a Nigeria story. It sets against that period, so everything that happened in the film starts on September 6 and ends on October 1, 1960, which was when Nigeria got her independence. The story is about a crime investigation at a small town called Akote where there was a crime of murder and rape. A Northern Nigerian detective was then summoned by the colonialists to resolve the case before Independence Day. The movie would be released early next year.

Your brothers Gabriel and Aremu are equally good actors, why do you hardly feature them in your movies?

It would be a wrong casting if I feature my brothers in a movie because I want them to be a part of the production. I know some families in the industry that does that and I have explained it to them before. It is absolutely wrong casting.

I can’t imagine me playing the role of a policeman in a movie, while Gabriel plays the criminal. It is very wrong. The only way you can justify such casting is if he plays my brother. Even if we are both playing roles that are not linked in a movie, professionally, it is wrong. The Wayans brothers for instance, play the role of brothers in all their movies. Dharmendra and his children in any Indian movie would play father and children and the same goes for Amitabh Bachchan and his children. It is only in this country that a whole family plays diverse roles in one movie.

Professionally, it is wrong and I will never do it. If I’m not in a film and I think any of my brothers would fit into the movie, they will do it. Gabriel understands because I have explained to him several times.

Judging by the few numbers of movies you’ve featured in, it is obvious that you are very selective. So what makes a good script to you?

A good script depends on what you are looking to get and who your audience is. Sometimes you want to write a script and shoot it just for the people of Lagos. Sometimes you might consider Nigeria or the international market.

If you want to write a story for the people of Mushin, your story must have things that the people of Mushin can relate to, they should be able to see a reflection of themselves in the movie and that is the only way it can appeal to them. So a script that tells the story as it is, is a good one.

On the average, how many movies have you featured in since you started acting?

They are less than 20.

What are your favourite movies?

I love Forest Gump which featured Tom Hanks. For me the movie is a classic and it’s a film I watch all the time because I learn a lot from it. Another film that really inspired me was Apocalypto by Mel Gibson. In fact it really helped me when I wanted to produce Figurine. There are films that I study and they have really helped me. And locally, Ti Oluwa ni ile is one of my best films.

 According to Funmi, after her interview with Bisi on national TV, their lives changed forever as her show was cancelled and he couldn't return to UNILAG where he was a student at the time. He had to go into hiding and eventually relocated abroad. When asked recently why as a straight celebrity, she supports Bisi Alimi and LGBT rights, she said:

"My sense of justice, fairness and rationality supersede any latent sense of social propriety. Gay rights, civil rights, religious rights, gender rights, child rights are human rights. Justice, equity and fairness are my idea of morality.

"Nigeria of today seems completely homophobic, xenophobic and religiously polarized as though that is the way we always were.

"I was a little girl who grew up in the same neighbourhood as gay Miss John, Muslim cleric Alhaji Abara, disabled Nureni, Mulika in her headscarves and pious Catholic Igbo Mama Uche.

"I saw differences in ethnicity; religion, gender, class and sexuality but these differences did not carry judgement. We lived together mostly harmoniously; any lack of harmony was on account of individual bad behaviour not genetic differences or lifestyle choices. I miss that Nigeria. I guess in a way l still live in that Nigeria in my head.

"And that was why in 2004 I risked my career to put Bisi on my sofa and conduct Nigeria’s first interview of an openly gay man on national television. Bisi and I did pay a hefty price for that action, he more than myself.

"Was it worth it? I’m afraid l have never had the luxury of absolute self-congratulations or flagellation. What I do know is, at that moment, it felt right. And every moment since then, it has felt right. I do what feels right by a conscience conditioned by my justice-minded, meddling mother, a childhood experiencing the beauty of diversity and a belief in our common humanity," she said.

I got a rare opportunity to have a chat with Miss Yetunde Orijah who was the third runner up of the third season of the well known Project fame as she thrilled us with her very unique single "Akingbolahan". She is popularly known as Yetunde Omo Ibadan. She is from Ondo state and she represents Ibadan and her name "Yetunde Omo Ibadan" was given to her by her fans during her stay in Project fame. What are your hobbies or rather what do you do when you're not singing?
Apart from singing,I love to read, write and play with colors on people's faces (makeup)

Been a while we heard from you, what have you been up to?
I've been doing good things but they are just in the background now due to the process they need to pass through before coming out..
 

What inspired your song Akingbolahan?

Well I will say God inspired Akingbolahan, I was just at a bus-stop in Ibadan that year when the chorus came to my head and that was it..

What record label are you currently working under?

For now, I'm not signed under any label


Fans have been dying to know if you're in a relationship.. To clear the air,are you currently in a relationship?

I wouldn't like to disclose that. But then I cannot hide my wedding day whether its been done secretly or openly. So I'm sure by then people will get to know.

Do you still interact with you housemates?

Of course I still interact with my house mates. Very well!

Which Nigerian and international artiste would you like to work with?

In Nigeria,  I'm open to any great artiste that will compliment my music and for international, I'll go for Angelique kidjo

What do you have to say to the youths and your fans out there?

To the youths i believe finding  the right field and not only working  hard but working smart pays alot..

Dbanj opened up in an interview with Jayne Augoye of Punch on how he misses DonJazzy and how he would love to have Genevieve as his wife.

 “Apart from the fact that she is my friend, she has been a part of my success. There is no way you are going to tell my story that Genevieve’s name will not come up because she featured in my biggest song of all time, Fall in Love. So if E True Story comes to Nigeria to interview me, she will definitely be called upon to tell my story.I would love to have Genevieve as my wife.  We never can tell what God plans for us in the future. I have studied her and I realised that anyone that has her as his woman has found himself a treasure. Just like the Bible says, any man who finds a wife, finds a good thing.”

ON REMAINING RELEVANT

“So much has happened in the last 18 months and I am very thankful to God. By the Grace of God, I have remained relevant for nearly a decade in the music industry and I have released hit songs every year. Also, I am glad that I have been chosen to headline the Hennessy Artistry this year. This is one brand that understands the importance of aligning with the entertainment industry.

My career is barely 10 years old.But with the success I have achieved so far, it feels like three decades already. Within my first 10 years as a musician,
I have recorded the biggest song and shot the most viewed music video of all time, ‘Oliver Twist’. I must say I am humbled and getting ready to take over,”

ON DONJAZZY

“If I say I don’t miss Don Jazzy, I am lying. I have spent the better part of my career with him. I was married to him in a way (laughs). So I miss everything about Mo’Hits: the family, the movement, and the vibe of being in the studio with him. I miss the jokes and the arguments, but I have since keyed into the notion that nothing can stop a moving train.

“Nevertheless we can always do music together. The track, ‘Top of the World’ was produced by a Grammy Award Winner. The songs ‘Finally’ and ‘Don’t Tell Me Nonsense’ was produced by my producer while ‘Oliver Twist’ was produced by Don Jazzy. So, why won’t I have him on my 10 years anniversary album?

“I have never said I am a musician; I am an entertainer. Some people say I can pick up a microphone and become a comedian. Therefore nobody should come and ask if I want to go into acting because they should know I am already an actor. It depends on when the right script and concept lands in my hands.

“For now, I am concerned about achieving new things and breaking new grounds. By the time I enter Hollywood, I believe that I’ll become as successful as I have been as a singer. The movie titled ‘I am Banga Lee’, starring Genevieve, to be released in 2014, won’t be a bad idea,”

Why she thrives on scandals?… 'don’t love scandals.  I don’t like to be in the news too.  I just love to be myself. I don’t try to be any other person but me. I’m a good girl.
On her dress sense: …'I wear 4DD. I’m so blessed. It’s not that I’m out to flaunt it, but it’s just that clothes don’t get to cover it all. It’s not really my fault.
