In this interview, Bovi talks on those who have motivated him and what he thinks of those comedians who steal other people’s jokes…. Read below.
Tell us about the Bovi brand?
I don’t think I have the words to define it. I do know for sure though that it’s an eclectic brand. Especially when it has to do with entertainment, and of course it’s a genuine brand.
When you started comedy did you see yourself getting this big in the industry?
“Big” has to be relative in this case. If you have an idea how lofty my goals and dreams are, you will realize I’m still an up and coming artist. I am still climbing the ladder.
What was your growing up like, and how did it shape your career?
I had a decent upbringing. I was introduced to books and the reading culture at an early age and I grew with it. I was drawn to the tube. So it’s a blend of the two not excluding my theatre training.
What was it like, when you first performed on stage as a comedian?
Just as it is now, it was euphoric. Euphoric, a mixture of emotions. It’s what I am passionate about.
Can you tell us how much you were paid for the first show you did?
I didn’t get paid in my first show. It wasn’t about money then. Your passion feeds your soul in ways money cannot buy.
What’s your take on comedians who steal other people’s jokes?
They are thieves. Anyone who steals is a thief. Hopefully the police will soon criminalize it and arrest the perpetrators. It’s a sensitive issue though. Friends trade ideas and materials.

In your own words, what does it takes to make it in the comedy industry?
It’s more of hard work and talent. It’s not rocket science. Talent is like light, It cannot be hidden.

Whose advice has been useful to your career?
So many people advised me. I cannot remember them off hand but wherever they are applicable, I remember them. Because I spent 2 years plus with RMD, I got the most advice from him. Basket mouth is another person who hasn’t held back truths and tricks of the business from me. I have learnt a lot from others. I’m a learner by nature.
What gave you your big break in the industry?
I haven’t had my big break yet. Trust me, when I do you will know .I am a man under construction
