President Goodluck Jonathan thanks Super Eagles

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday thanked the Super Eagles for their  performance that saw them beating the Elephants  of Cote D’Ivoire to earn them a semi-final ticket  in South Africa.

Nigeria beat Cote D’Ivoire 2-1 to send the Elephants packing from the tournament.

Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, in a Twitter message, said Jonathan thanked the players for their masterly and superlative performance.

Abati wrote, “President Jonathan thanks the Super Eagles for their masterly and superlative performance in the just-concluded AFCON encounter with CIV.

“President Jonathan says to the Super Eagles now is the time to really begin to soar like the Super Eagles that they are.

“President Jonathan joins all Nigerians in celebrating today’s victory by the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

“The President has watched all the matches including this last one.”

Jonathan had, shortly after the Super Eagles on Tuesday beat Ethiopia 2-0 to book a place in the quarter-final of the tournament, urged them to go for gold, saying their victory was well-deserved.
